Not sleeping well?

I read one of the articles on the forum that drinking coffee after 12 noon was a bad idea, because at 12 midnight there is still 15 milligrams of caffeine left in your bloodstream.
So, over the past week I have been drinking diluted fruit squash after 12 noon.
It has mainly worked !
I modified this by sleeping in the spare room a couple of nights too. One of those nights I slept in the spare room and had a clear 7.5 hours uninterrupted sleep. At 80 years old that is a first for many a year.
Decent pillows helped too, and so did smearing grease on the door knob to keep the kids out
My question here is, what have you done to have a better nights sleep, no matter what age you are?
Does your partner snore, and how have you dealt with that?
Humorous answers are welcome too.

For side sleepers:
We have a noisy cat at night. I plug the ear not on the pillow. I use little silicone balls that conform to the ear. They are easy to transfer to the other ear when I turn over.
