I’m in early stage of researching, will probably start with Costco. I have an Android Samsung 23+. I care a lot about using app to make HA adjustments. I care a lot about Blue Tooth hooking up to my car. I do not care if my phone comes through my HA, in fact I think I would dislike this at present.
I’m seeing a threads re Jabra Enhance 20 BT fighting with other BT connections. Would this be true if only using the app? I’m very confused.
I am not at all interested in using an IPhone, so compatibility is very very important to me. I like the idea of Auracast going forward, and ideally with complete compatibility if my hearing gets worse, but there are only so many variables one can manipulate at a time, I guess.
With my hearing aids I can be connected to the app but not have my calls come through the hearing aid. Not sure about others. Express this preference to Costco fitter and test early on in the process. I believe your phone should be compatible with all hearing aids sold by Costco, but again verify. I would think connections would be less of an issue when dealing just with the app but don’t know. Try it. For me, the app is much less useful than I thought it would be.
Well I am the opposite i could care less about the stupid app, but for me to carry on a phone conversation i have to have it streamed to my aids. I don’t have extra programs in my aids so the app is redundant and of very little use. I have the INTENT1 aids with the Samsung S23 phone.
I have the Resound Nexia which is the same as the jabra’s and I use a Samsung Z-flip 4 and the connections is very good … I use the app many time through the day, especially when watching TV using the TV streamer to adjust the volume … since every chanel and show is broadcast at a different volume.
Yeah this is one thing that’s annoying, why can’t the tv output at the level for all channels and inputs, seems like a simple thing to do, right so can this new and wonderful AI not help with a simple thing like this
I think I phrased that poorly. I was reading on at least one other thread that another Android user could not connect his phone to his car if he was using hands-free mode on his HA. I don’t think I care about hands-free mode. I guess I don’t understand how the phone app connects to the HA. Is it via Blue Tooth or wi-fi? If it’s via Blue Tooth, will using the phone app mean I can’t then connect the phone to the car?
I use my HAs like the OP wants to do. I have turned off streaming phone calls (and other media) to my HAs and just use my phone like ordinary folks. I use the app on my phone to control the HA settings - no great problems using this approach.
Rationale was that my wife and other folk could not detect when I was listening to my HAs streaming calls/music.
The phone app connects via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to the hearing aids.
the app on the phone is only meant to control the settings of the hearing aids (Volume change, Program change, other features like: equalizer, noisblock/windblock, microphone mode.
The streaming from phone to Jabra heaing aids is also via BLE , or newer BLE-Audio if phone supports it.
You dont need the App up and running on the phone to stream audio to the hearing aids
I honestly wish that was possible for me but it isn’t. I have to depend on streaming calls to my aids, my only other choice is speech to text. There isn’t any way I can carry on a conversation on the phone without the sound going to both ears. That is the only way i can understand what is being said
I use a Samsung S22+ with Philips 9050s. When I turn on the hearing aids in the morning, with the app already running on the phone, the aids automatically connect to the phone for both control and audio output. The phone has a button on the quick settings screen called “Media output”. That can be used to switch the audio to come out of the phone like usual.
On phone calls, the button that normally gives you a choice between speaker phone and regular phone will have a third choice for hearing aid output when the hearing aids are connected to the phone. Surprisingly, when the phone’s media output is set to “phone”, when I make a phone call, the phone app defaults to hearing aids. That seems like a bug to me.
Like many people on this forum, I really like having phone call audio sent to me hearing aids. It truly does work well.
One big motivator for me to get hearing aids was the problem of not hearing the notification sound when my wife sends me a text while I am in a noisy place. Sending the audio to the aids solves that (along with setting my notification sound to a foghorn).
When you get aids, you might find that sending sound to the aids is actually a plus for you.
I will say that I never pair my phone with my car, and never do phone calls from the car, so I don’t have any opinion about managing bluetooth, car audio, and hearing aids.
This is a major concern for me. I enjoy talking on the phone while I’m driving (always being safe, of course) so I don’t want a problem with that. The fact that they automatically connect with the app each morning makes me wonder. But, I guess I’ll find out on trial. I’ve made an appt at Costco, and posted my list of questions/concerns to see if seems complete.
As far as notifications, so far I have no problem hearing them, and I also have a Galaxy Watch which is like having notifications on my wrist.
I don’t know about the 9050 or the Jabra but the Rexton Reach connects to the app without using bluetooth, it used sounds between the phone and the hearing aids to change volume and programs, you can not track battery status. You can not hear the sounds but if I turn down the phone sound volume the app shows a message to increase volume to 50% or higher. This on an iphone I assume Android is the same
I am a newbie and initially did not like the notification going to my HAs. After a couple of weeks, I changed my mind and enjoyed hearing the notifications through the hearing aids with no one else having to hear it.
