New NHS aids today - lots of static!

Had hearing test today at Specsavers. Right ear was ok but left wasnt so needed a hearing aid. Went for NHS (Danalogic Ambio 677) and seemed ok in shop given it was my first hearing aid so was told to expect some initial differences in terms of sound being 'tinny ’ and ‘echoey’. However since returning home ive noticed a significant amount of white noise/static. Although im picking up sound much more in my bad ear its virtually negated by this background static. Even noticeable if i take deep breaths! Have left a message with Specsavers to ask whats causing this eg is the aid defective, poorly programmed or simply just poor quality? Does anyone else have this problem with NHS hearing aids, particularly the Danalogic Ambio aids. If the problem cant be fixed i may have to invest in some private hearing aids. I am assuming of course that static isnt a common issue with hearing aids!

No. This should not be a common problem. They probably need to adjust the aids, failing that, then replace it.

NHS aids are generally pretty good, but tend to be 2 to 3 years behind the very latest available privately. Danalogic is a Resound model, which should be reasonable quality.

Thanks! Only my first day and dont know what to expect exactly but i was hoping for better than this! I suspect it may be a feedback issue. The only way i can describe it is that its like listening to the radio and also having just one earbud in which is also receiving the radio via Bluetooth ie i am hearing two lots of sound!

If you have not done so already and have a smart phone you can download the app either “Bemore” or “Resound Smart 3D” available on Android and Apple. it will give you extra control over your settings.
I have the Ambios, on a scale of 1-10, I would give them a 5. having used more premium aids.

I’ve just picked up my NHS hearing aids from the local hospital audiology department (I’m too young to get NHS aids from Specsavers in this trust) and I’m very happy with both the service and the aids they provided.

While not cutting edge, these Phonak Bolero M70 provide performance around home around the house / out on dog walks.

They are not as good in a noisy pub as the Spheres and they can only connect to one Bluetooth device at a time, but overall they certainly do the job.

I would suggest, from the sound of it, the pair of aids you have been given, as they are brand new, are probably defective, so I would go back to Specsavers for a replacement.
