I am looking to buy pair of hearing aids. I am hard of hearing from when I born. I am 42 years old. In primary school I had used analog hearing device (Opticon). I need an advice to buy the hearing aids which best suite for me.
My Audiogram is below.
D is Right and L is Left ear.
What you think about Siemens Motion 501? Is there big difference between 16 channel (Motion 701) and 12 channel hearing device? Is it better for me to buy similar product from Oticon or Phonac? One Siemens Motion 501 here from my audiologist is around 1000 euros.
Please help me with choosing right HAs for my hearing lost.
Thanks for the answer. I have not opportunity to try HAs in trial period of say 30 days. And it is quite expensive. I am worried about feedback (Siemens Motion) according the posts are have read in the forum. I have problem with hearing from childhood. In primary school I had used analog Oticon HAs. A long time, since I was 17 old, I have not used any kind of HAs. Now, in my 42 age, I want to use HAs.
You should not allow a concern about feedback slow you down from getting help. Feedback is a normal physical outcome of amplification, mechanical fitting of equipment to your ear, and changes in the immediate vicinity of the aid, such as a hat, telephone, hand, etc. If the system is properly built and adjusted it should seldom go into feedback. If it does, today’s equipment has features to stop the resulting squeal. My analog aids I wore for 15 years were always able to squeal, but seldom did. They head no feedback cancellation, but instead, I avoided the causes of feedback very successfully all those years.
Thanks. So the feedback is not an issue with new Siemens HAs. I the price range of 800 to 1000 euros according to my hearing loss which brand and device can you suggest me to buy? I can choose between Siemens, Oticon and Phonac.
Stanisa,
What I did to begin was to make a spreadsheet showing what equipment was available and what features each manufacturer offered and at what price. It is very important to determine what features you need and what features may be unnecessary in your case so you can save some money and still get what you NEED. Perhaps last years model is available with the features you need with a much lower price than the latest model with more “bells and whistles”. It is impossible for us to be sure what is available to you in your region.
As I know here in my country, Siemens, Oticon and Phonac offering the latest models of hearing aids. I’m interested in, according to my impairment, to price in a given range, which hearing aids will you recommend. I ask you, members of the forum, because you are in a similar situation as mine for help in looking for the right one.
the 3 brands you mention are all good… which is better is only a matter of opinion (i.e like comparing cars, fridges, breeds of dogs etc)… personally I like the motion 501’s - but others will disagree
Thanks for the response.
The Siemens has more feature in price range than the other two. The Audio offer me Siemens Motion 501 with Tek for 1000 euro. I have to try Oticon and Phonak Audeo.
I have a Rexton Insite in my right ear. Rexton is a Siemens brand that may have similar technology to the Motion and Pure Siemens models for less money. I got my first hearing aid last March for my left ear and the Rexton for the right ear in August. It was a mistake for me to get one at a time. I should have bought hearing aids for both ears at the beginning. Hearing with two aids is much improved compared to one aid and I lost some hearing in the unaided ear over that period which I’m told may be due to the brain starting to shut down the bad ear where there is no hearing.
Another thing you might be interested in is buying off the Internet. America Hears and Hearpod have good reputations for decent devices and good customer service. With America Hears you can program the hearing aid yourself or have them do it over the Internet.
