New Audiologist: Trialing the Oticon Xceed + CROS Hearing Aid

Best to buy one on eBay and self program.

Private audiologists won’t want to program NHS Aids even if they are unlocked.

Here’s a brand new one on eBay for £200!

Actually that may be not bad idea at all. Do I need dome for the cross HA?

@Sara82 - For me, the CROS unit (for both Phonak and Oticon) provides a significant audio boost compared to just wearing the single main hearing aid unit. And eliminates the head shadow effect and I can sit wherever I want at a meeting table without issue.

But, I have a terrible problem with my XCeed set rebooting randomly throughout the day. It only occurs in my house and never when I am out and about away from the house, which is odd. I have tried everything to troubleshoot it and nothing works.

I would highly recommend against Oticon if random rebooting is a major issue for you.

At my first opportunity, I am trialing new Phonak Infinio non-Sphere rechargeables plus CROS (because apparently all manufacturers believe rechargeables are the future and I might as well switch while I am young enough to adapt) with my audiologists’ office and can’t wait to get away from the XCeed. There are some nice things about it but I can’t get past the random rebooting. It just makes me so angry when it happens that I paid $5,000 for a manufacturer’s defect that they should have a good conscience to resolve, but they don’t because not enough people make enough noise about it.

A $5,000 pair of devices should NEVER randomly reboot. EVER. I never had a single problem with Phonak devices rebooting. But Oticon sure does. If I had known about this random rebooting issue, I would never have made the switch. This issue is documented elsewhere on this forum as a manufacturer’s inferior programming processes and a glitch in the hearing aid firmware (others are trying to cover up for Oticon by saying it’s a power draw issue but I highly doubt that because these hearing aids are rated for and programmed for my hearing loss - the XCeed 1 for severe to profound and I highly doubt that Oticon would willingly put to market a hearing aid with such a power draw issue that doesn’t work 24/7). I do, however, put the blame squarely on the manufacturer for not fixing it through a firmware update and continuing to allow it to happen.

Also, I may trial the single Phonak Infinio Sphere too if I get the chance because apparently, it can provide equal results to a CROS unit pair in most situations according to the AMA with Phonak Executive VPs on this board (their reasoning behind getting rid of Infinio plus CROS versions of the Sphere). We shall see whether or not that claim is true for me at least.

You’re welcome, @Sara82 - I will keep you updated as I am able to get the trial. I can’t do this for another couple of months due to finances but once I can I’ll report on these forums in a new thread how I do with them.
