I always turn off Bluetooth when not using it on all devices but still unfortunately have issues with audio streaming from my Pixel 8 to my Sphere 90s. I appreciate the comments though, any other suggestions?
One other comment on my Spheres that I haven’t seen mentioned on this forum - I have brown hair, but my audiologist says brown Spheres aren’t available. So I have silver colored HAs for now, which is a bit of a bummer. He says that Phonak has announced that because of demand right now they are only issuing like 4 main colors rather than their usual 10-ish, and that in the future people with an unwanted color will be able to swap out for a better color. Has anyone else experienced this? This is one of the other minor things making me wonder if I should try out Intents instead, which have a big range of colors, though attempting to trial them as would cost me like $500 total for the cost of getting now two custom mold sets.
I just changed my sphere from silver to grey after wearing them for 2 months. I had thought they would give me new ones but my Audi speculated that Phonak had simply changed the shell. I am happy about it because it preserved all my settings without putting me through another REM exercise. Perhaps, you can strike a deal whereby you can have the color changed (shell) once the desired color is available. I am giving you an idea to pursue.
thank you for this suggestion, @FatLarry999 - I’ll keep it in mind when next at audiologist and I guess ask them to disable those tracking/connection notifications
Yes, my audi told me in December that Phonak was aware of an issue because of the way the wires were getting bent when being plugged in. She said that they would be issuing something new in January that corrects that problem, and she ordered a new set for me at that time. I am finding the bluetooth connection marginally more stable.
I also get those random disconnection and reconnection alerts. I don’t really want to disable the notification, though, because I think it can serve a useful purpose when it’s working correctly. I just wish they fixed it so it didn’t happen without cause.
go to your tablet, computer or whatever and turn off blue tooth on all such devices that you do not need to connect to your HAs at the moment. i.e. leave the BT on on your phone and only one other device that you also want to stream from.
Go into each device (iPad, laptop, Smart TV) and turn off the Bluetooth in the settings menu when you are not using that device with your hearing aids. This includes the Phonak TV connector, Roger too. Otherwise, these devices will grab one of the two active connections without you knowing it and when you go to connect to something, it won’t connect.
Hi there, I thought I’d throw this out. I have trialed six different brands of the latest releases in 2024 and found all kinds of issues with Bluetooth connectivity and switching between devices.
I used to toggle Bluetooth off on a device when wanting to switch to another device. However, I found that if the Audio Switching in Hearing Devices (iPhone) is set to Auto, then usually instead of turning off Bluetooth, I start an audio stream like music or a podcast in Spotify on the new device and it grabs the hearing aid and makes the connection.
I can’t tell you how many times I neglected to turn off the Bluetooth when I was done with a device and had to go back and open it up and find the option to turn off. Now, I do as I indicated and the audio switches for me.
Let me just make one additional point on why I think the issue is environment interference. When I am connected to my work laptop for a Teams call with my Sphere’s, I can typically walk 25-30 feet away and still have a strong connection. I could not do this with my Resound Quattro’s (MFi) or even my Phonak Lumity hearing aids. Sphere handles distance with no issue and then all of a sudden, you lose connection with one of the hearing aids. Strangely enough, the hearing aid restores the connection with 20-30 seconds. To me, this is a symptom of interference and not a defect with the hearing aids. Just go look into your Wifi router and see all the devices that are connecting in your house and then remind yourself that your next store neighbours have a similar number of wireless and bluetooth devices whose signal probably spills into your house.
You can do that, if you can find the correct rechargable batterie and if you have the correct tools and the skills to perform the workaround.
Another user showed in the following thread how to replace the rechargable batterie on a Phonak Audeo Marvel.
But as long as the hearing aids are in warranty you certainly should first ask your audi to send in the hearing aids in because of dying battery, and you will receive back your HA with new internals with a fresh battery.
Certainly not doing myself if still on warranty - IF I can easily and timely get service, but it is just good to know. I used to build electronic gizmos as a kid, and then did some factory authorized repairs - so soldering is second nature to me. Thank you for the info. Does the recessed red/blue area have anything to do with it opening?
Comparing my experience with my Paradise P90R’s…I just had a “tune-up” a week ago today. There’s a vast improvement over the last 3 years. What’s changed?
Back then background noise prevented me from understanding what I wanted to hear.
Today background noise is much much quieter through my hearing aids.
So I’ve had 2 years with my previous hearing aids (thanks Peel Audiology) they were hazardous and I couldn’t hear. And I’ve had 3 years with my Paradise P90R’s not understanding what I am told I’ve had 3 sets of Phonaks. And one single Widex.
So in my case I think my background was “environmental interference.” Except in my case I couldn’t hear talk and understand it. Finally it’s getting better. Except I feel like I’ve aged 20 years trying to hear in the last 5 years.
I just wanted to thank you for your detailed reviews of the Sphere. I got mine a few weeks ago, with cShell skeleton molds and was initially experiencing distortions in the lower frequencies, especially in TV and music streaming mode, and oddly, with my wife’s voice. I read your posts about clipping and how going from an M to a P receiver solved most of your issues. My Sphere’s were shipped with P receivers because my audiologist believed that they would provide the best quality sound for my hearing loss. I had one follow up visit and some tweaking, but problems remained. I met with her again and provided her with the documentation of your experience, and she ordered new UP receivers. I got them today and it has totally revolutionized my Sphere hearing experience. Huge improvements in Calm mode and in streaming. My word recognition is way up. There is still some tweaking to do, but my problem was clipping due to lack overheard room on the curves, like yours. Thanks for a great revue!
My pleasure! Glad my information was useful and sorted out your issues. These are incredible hearing aids and it bugs me when people are having problems getting them to work properly. Not sure what the issue is with the new receivers on the Sphere’s but going up one power level seems to fix it.
My older brother just started his trial of the Sphere’s (after I hounded him to replace his broken Resound Quattro’s) and he can’t believe the difference. When they are setup properly, they are game changing.
Suggestion Phonak. Use myPhonak. Confirm the setup programs. Surely there’s a way. Even if it’s simply asking the customer if the hearing aids work for the user.
Thank you so much for your updates. I’m now going to trial the Sphere’s on Friday. I’m hoping for the same results as you have had. One thing I’m unhappy about is that these do not/will not include the T-Coil which has been the best thing for me! Giving that up will be terrible for me!
