I have been wearing hearing aids for a couple years now. My first hearing aids were Jabra Enhance from Costco. They have served me fairly well however there are a few things I don’t like about them. 1. The behind the ear design makes noise when my glass frames, hair, or hat rubs against them. This is a constant issue. 2. If I want to change the program I have to go into Costco and see if I can get them to do it. They always try and usually succeed in just getting me to accept the original program. 3. I’m suppose to be able to take phone calls over the Jabra’s but this feature works sometimes and is a real PITA when it doesn’t. The issue is probably my Pixel 6 but It was more trouble than it was worth so I never use that feature.
I have been thinking about getting a backup pair of hearing aids and when the Sony CRE-C20 came along I thought I would give these a try. I have only had them for 2 days but so far I have been pleased with them. It will take a little getting use to the fit as they are very different from the behind the ear Jambra’s, However there is no noise from hair, glass frames, or hats. There does seem to be a little more noise when I eat from chewing. I have programed them a couple times already and used the fine tuning feature. I’m still testing them but I think these will replace my Jabra’s as I am impressed with there performance so far. The only thing I miss is the loudness adjustment must be done through the app. You could adjust the volume on the Jambra’s on the hearing aids. I notice that Soundly where I purchased mine is now saying it is their number 1 selling hearing aid. I have 45 days to test them but unless I find that they are too uncomfortable or that there is another issue that I am not yet aware of I will likely keep these.
Update: 9-22-25 I have changed the programing on these 4 times. This last time I just ran the test again and indicated every time I thought I could hear a beep. ( I have a problem with tennitus and sometimes I don’t know if I am hearing a faint beep or not as I think my tennitus might be covering it up.) I do think they are the most natural sounding I have had so far. As far as the tone and loudness which I turned up a notch after programing I am pretty happy with the sound. I can definitly hear with better clarity with them in. However I gotta get these things to fit better. They are difficult to get seated and the left one keeps falling out of the canal. When they are not seated properly they squeal every time I talk or eat something. In this regard my Jabras so far have been far superior. They ship with the small domes. I tried the extra small and they were worse. I just tried the medium and they work better, still not perfect, and they are difficult to get in. Once in they are fine. It is just much easier to get the Jabras in my ear. I will also try the large domes and maybe see if I can get some vented ones that will work although I think the squealing sound comes from not having a good seal.
10-2-25: Update: I have not found the perfect solution for the sqealing the hearing aids can make however I did purchase both the small and medium vented sleeves for these and find that if I use a small vented sleeve in my left ear and a medium in my right ear it is almost eleminated. This is also the most comfortable combo I have found. The bass notes seam to be a little weeker with the vented ear sleeves. ( All day comfort and lack of sqealing is better with the Jabra’s as should be expected because the reciever is much farther from the speaker.)
I’m going to do more testing over the next few days but at this point I believe the Sony C20’s solve a couple problems and create a couple new ones.
