My Costco experience with the Jabra Enhance Pro

As a Costco customer, I’ve always gotten wax filters and dome just by asking for a bunch. They’ve never charged me. I also asked for instructions on inserting new wax filters. I strongly recommend asking for the materials and instruction (if you want it) from your Costco.

Now that think of it, I got domes and filters from a Costco about 1,000 miles away from my usual one about 2 weeks ago. No charge.

If you’re having connection issues with IOS make sure in the app that Optimize MFI connection slider is turned off.

It depends on your Costco. The one i went to would not give me anything. No extra domes (prior to my molds), no wax guards and didnt even want me to ever remove the domes myself. Its one of the reasons i returned mine and found some used Resound One 9 aids for an amazing price on OfferUp.com
I knew the aids were good, just couldn’t get my Costco to adjust them correctly and after many attemps gave up. I since went to a different Costco and stopped in to chat with the manager on a Saturday when i was just shopping and i felt he had a much better grasp of fitting the Jabra’s.
I have zero ear wax so cant help there

Mr.smithster, your experience with Costco mirrors mine. I don’t think they want me touching the HAs. No mention of wax filters. No extra domes. I’m really disappointed in my Costco experience.

Since 2015 Costco locations have given me (or my wife) extra domes and wax guards. No questions asked.

Sorry your experiences have been different.

You might try talking to the manager or if possible, change stores. When i asked to change stores, they said I had to return them for a refund, then go to another store and purchase all over. Thats when i gave up, and after trying 2 different fitters at that location. But then after, when i talked to the manger at a different store, he said he would have accepted me and the Jabra’s without returning. Confused, i called Costco corporate and they said its up to the individual manager at each location.

When you take the domes off, there is a place for inserting a wax guard. You should have received some with your HA. The guards are specific to the hearing aid, but you can find them on Amazon. Find a new audiologist or tech. Part of their job is teaching basic HA maintenace.

Update: Today I had a session at the same Costco store but with a different audio tech (no bona fide audiologists at this store). She verified that my issues with the other tech had been expressed by other customers. She spent an hour with me, fitted me with different domes, discussed the wax filter and its replacement with me (I already purchased a filter replacement kit), adjusted my frequency compensation, discussed re-pairing the HAs, offered wax filters, gave me spare domes of two types, showed me many things on the iPhone app I was not aware of, and answered my questions. I am now a much happier customer. It was the other tech in the store that was the problem.

What an interesting coincidence. I followed Jim Lewis’ advice and found my stats are exactly the same as yours. Microphone levels, treble bass, and presets etc.

I wasn’t getting the right HA stats on my iPhone. It looked dead but it wasn’t dead and I checked it out and then it automatically came on by itself. I didn’t have to do anything but I guess it knew that Anita wanted it fixed so it fixed itself.

I hardly ever go into this site anymore, but it was so nice to see all the comments and I remember many of you.

I rid myself of the molds and am now back to Domes, and they work very well.

I don’t know what you mean by “types”, but if that translates into difference in size or vents, then that is rather baffling. The specific type dome you were provided is an important factor in the HA programming.

Re your wax problem: Obviously, you must have wax guards designed for the HA and know how to replace them. Some folks ears produce a lot of wax, others not so. I’m probably about average so I have to keep my eye on it or eventually it becomes a problem. On advice from my otolaryngologist I started rinsing my ear canals under the warm water stream in the shower - I very rarely change the guards now.

Finally, re your iPhone connectivity: I don’t have Jabras, so can’t comment there. But with my MFI Oticon More’s, the BT range is far beyond the 33ft spec (actually, I only lose signal at more than 2x that). I get the same strength streaming from my tv adapter. I’m using IOS 16.5.1. Just sayin’ . . .

Mingus, I’m 3 weeks in or so and still on the steep learning curve.

I should have said “sizes,” not “types” on the domes. I’'m trying a size larger than the smallest, but I have narrow ear canals. The tech made a single cut in the slightly larger domes that gave me more comfort and a tad better low frequency response on streaming audio.

I’ve flushed my ears and even had them looked at in one of the urgent care places. They are pretty clear. I’m going to use an ear wax removal solution for a few days to get some of the remaining wax out.

Changing out the wax filters: This was one of my gripes with the first tech I had at Costco. He told me nothing about that and said “just bring them by and we’ll take care of it.” After having 3 wax plugs in 10 days I did some research on the Internet and educated myself about the wax filters. The second tech at Costco that I visited with was very helpful and offered me a supply of filters. I changed it once myself. Not a big deal and much easier than driving several miles to Costco just to have the wax filter replaced.

Connectivity: Most of the time now I can just restart the phone app after losing connection and this seems to re-initiate the sequence to reconnect without having to reboot the HAs. Much easier solution. Things are working out as I learn what options work and don’t work for me. There are a lot of options for picking up phone calls, receiving phone notifications, and other hearing device options on the iPhone that I am exploring to see which I prefer. For example, I don’t know if I prefer using the phone speaker on phone calls, or if the poor quality streaming audio is sufficient. I’ll try both and decide.

I’ve bought aids at Costco, and as my hearing has worsened and I need the top-of-the-line aids that Costco doesn’t carry, I’ve returned to audiologists. I am finding that most audiologists are no better than Costco hearing instrument specialists (or sometimes, audiologists). And Costco usually has state-of-the-art equipment, enabling them to do more precise fine tuning than the equipment in most audiologist offices.

As in you mean UP HAs, as all of the HAs sold at Costco are premium models, I tend to agree that the technician’s at Costco are just as good/bad as any others in the industry as well, I’m not sure about the technical equipment being any better or worse then other clinics, but one thing for sure is that the tools being used are only as good as the person using it!

Just an FYI. I happen to have a friend in Denmark, now retired, who was VP for Research at GN, the company who makes Resound and Jabra HAs. He informed me that the Jabra Enhance Pro 10 model is a very capable model but not the top of the line. The Resound line sold by GN has the most advanced digital signal processing.

Hi there, we keep hearing these from people, but in what way? There doesn’t seem to be anything of significance that makes any real difference.

I could swear I found specs for both the ReSound Omnia 9s and Pro 10s. The numbers of bands, noise suppression levels, etc., were identical to my eye. I have a vague memory that frequency response claims were identical, too, but the Omnias may go up a few more Hz, but I became deaf to those frequencies 55 years ago. The accessories are the same. The user guides are the same.

I also think I saw something on my Jabras that mentione ‘861’ instead of ‘961’, so the Jabra Pro 10s may fit in between the Omnia 9s and 7s, but they definitely claim to have the adjustability of the 9s.

Of course, if there are differences, the question then becomes: are the diffs meaningful?

The specifications may look superficially the same between the GN Resound Omnias and the Resound Ones (which I think Costco sell as Jabra Enhance Pro) but they are totally different chip sets. I have had both and the Omnias are much superior to the Ones and the speech in noise performance is spectacular. Omnia is two years newer than One, so you would expect it to be better. But to me it also sounds better, smoother and less “digital”.

At the end of the day though, the biggest issue is to find an audiologist who is fully willing and able to set them up properly for your hearing loss.

David, thanks for this post. In the U.S. Costco is selling the Jabra Pro Enhance model made by GN, I think is the Danish company name. I have a Danish friend who was actually involved with research with that company, and he confirms your observations, that the Jabra model is a lower end version of the Resound line of hearing aids. But, I wonder what U.K. model my Jabra HAs correspond to? Btw, I am happy with these but have nothing to compare them to, and I totally agree with your statement about needing a good audiologist. My Costco comes up short in that department.

Help with Feedback problem on new Jabra Enhance Pro 20 ?
I am blind and have had a moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss for 40 years.
I just got the Costco Jabra Enhance Pro 20 RIC hearing aids With CUSTOM Earmolds.
They Handled Background Nois well in the store and Car.
The Jabra Phone App and streaming is good.

Now here is the problem.
There is Feedback (squeal) when hand is near ear or walking near a wall.

Since I have to wait 3 weeks for the next appointment, I like to make it count.
What adjustment should I ask the Costco Hearing Instrument Specialist to make on the aids?

The one I go to is a little understaffed as of late.
I want to know accurately what is needed in order the fine tune the aids, so as to get this fixed in a timely and efficient manner.
