Musician/Singer advice for setting up Phillips 9050

Hello, new friends!

I’ve odered Phillips 9050 from Costco and get them fitted next week. I’m enthusiastic about my HIS, who has listened carefully to my concerns. I have the typical high frequency hearing loss that encroaches on severe at the highest frequency.

I’m a church musician (choir director and pianist). Separately, I also sing in another choir. I’m worried about being able to hear myself correctly when I sing (while also hearing those around me to stay in tune/time). Also to hear the director’s instructions when she speaks during rehearsal. Can that all happen in one setting/mode, or will I have to set up two in order to navigate rehearsals?

I welcome any other suggestions that I might bring with me to my fitting. We have already spoken about remote adjustments so that I can sing, or play the piano at church and she can make adjustments from Costco. I’m looking forward to this improvement to my hearing, and hope the adjustment time moves quickly (first time HA user).

What a wonderful resource this forum is! (I have read many of the threads here pertaining to 9050’s and to music).

It may be help for you to get a copy of your audiogram and post it.

  1. Click on your icon.
  2. Click on profile icon.
  3. Select preferences.
  4. Select My Audiogram.
  5. Enter your Audiogram and save.

I would download a frequency analyzer to your smart phone and use it to identify which frequencies and loudness levels that need to be adjusted. Note that all of the hearing aids sold at Costco have multiple frequencies and loudness level adjustments settings.

You will need at least two different program settings. That hearing has four separate program settings that you can use.

You can always try DIY fitting. This web site has a DIY section where they can help you with what you need to have.

Here is a link for you to look at.

You can also go to AudiologyOnline and take courses for free as long as you don’t need continuing education credit.

You might also want to look at the programming software to get a better understanding as to what can be adjusted. See the folks at the DIY section here at this website.

Be sure to have her set up the Hi-Fi Music program for you, because out of the box, everything is programmed for speech, and a lot of digital processing is going on, which makes music sound like mud!

You may require a custom music program for your choir singing, and that may require the remote programming, which is really great you have a HIS willing to work with you.

The Philips has 4 program slots, so you should be able to accomplish your goals.

Thanks! I am happy for the remote adjustments feature, indeed! Glad to hear I’ve got options/slots for programs.
