Moisture and irritated ear canals

Hi. My son is 7 and has moderately severe hearing loss in both ears and currently wears BTE aids with the full shell molds. He has problems with his canals itching and having flakey skin in them. He also seems to keep moisture in there as well. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to help him? Would a different ear mold help? I have been told to use hydrocortizone cream for the itching. Any input is greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks!

Brandy - the professionals will probably give some good advice, but I found Eargene to help a bit with the itching. A little goes a long way. I put a little on my fingertips and rub in the ear canal - and, I also sometimes just rub on the ear mold.

I use a teeny tiny bit of hydrocortisone ointment on my fingertip in my ear canal. I have the same problem. I prefer the ointment to the cream - it stays on better. My audiologist recommended Miracell ProEar, but it’s not working very well.

Your son could be allergic to the earmold material, talk to your audi about it and maybe they can try something else. Good luck!

Continued, extended use of hydro-cortisone cream has some potential negative side-effects so I’d only use it sparingly and for short periods of time.

I second the thought about being allergic to the material. Also, see if the venting in the mold can be increased a little to allow for a little more air-flow.
