Hi all. First post here. Just got my new LiNX Quattro hearing aids from the VA. I have an iPhone XR and an iPad Pro, both running the latest version of iOS. Bluetooth streaming is my issue on both devices. Sometimes the sound cuts out in the right aid, sometimes in the left, both while streaming music and talking on he phone via Bluetooth. VA says nothing is wrong with the hearing aids. What’s going on here?
Do you have any other device around that could be competing for a BT connection? I’m not an iPhone user but as an Android user with a Samsung Galaxy Gear S3 watch I used to have cutting out if I already had my watch connected and launched the Phone Clip+ streamer. Now I usually launch the PC+ first, make sure it’s connected to Media Audio in its BT settings from the Quick Settings pulldown, then turn on BT again for my watch and connect it to call audio (or leave BT off entirely for the watch, which I often do to extend battery life during quiet times of day-e.g., washing dishes late at night while streaming Kai Ryssdal’s APM Marketplace podcast). For me with an Android phone, once I establish a streaming connection with the PC+ or the Multi Mic, it’s been very stable and good clear streaming unless I walk too far away from the phone.
No, nothing else we own is Bluetooth capable other than these hearing aids I have.
I will give a response a try. What you describe sounds somewhat like problems I was having with my ReSound Quattros in the first month or so of using them. I see you have LiNX Quattro. I’m not positive that’s my model but maybe this will still help. My issue was that the App would lose one ear, or the other. I called the number at ReSound that my audiologist said is supposed to be support for the App on the iPhone: 1-888-735-4327. The customer service rep was very helpful.
I am a capable computer user, but definitely not a techie. If that sounds scary (it probably should) you should probably just stop here and call ReSound’s help number. But…I’ll try:
First of all, I understood that the hearing aids aren’t set up to connect to BOTH my iphone and my ipad. I understood it’s best to pick one–I chose my phone. I also have an Apple Watch, and using the ReSound “complication/app” on the watch and the phone is OK. And, indeed, both work well for me. MAYBE (I’m not sure) maybe the problem I had was that I’d failed to turn off the bluetooth on my iPad when I also had it on on my iPhone. Does that somehow scramble stuff? Anyway, maybe try turning off the bluetooth on one of your devices and just try to get things working on one device. (I gave up on the Ipad and just stream with my phone. I actually deleted the app from my iPad.) After that, you can figure out if I misunderstood about whether both an iPhone and an iPad can be set up to stream and control your hearing aids.
I have an iPhone 6. I thought maybe I’d have to upgrade the phone. I didn’t. The rep told me that some iPhones are working well and others are not, and that it doesn’t seem to matter what model you have. He said even the Xs have been having the problem.
These are the notes I saved from what he had me do that fixed my issue: (The rep actually walked me through the iPhone screens and menus to find the list of things that follow–I’m afraid I can’t help you with that):
- He had me reset my network settings on the phone.
- He had my phone “forget” my hearing aids (through the MFI menu).
- He had me open the Smart 3d App and TURN OFF “optimize MFI connection” (which my audiologist had turned on).
- He had me go through the protocol of re-pairing my hearing aids to my Iphone.
- I went back into my wifi menu on my phone and entered our network password.
Maybe that won’t seem at all daunting to you. But, if it does, I’d definitely call ReSound app support # because they seemed very familiar with the issue.
With my Costco Resound Forte 861s, I occasionally experience that characteristic drop out – first one side, then the other – when I’m browsing YouTube on my phone. I think this is due to YouTube autoplay videos competing for the MFI connection. So I think Jim is correct in asking whether there’s anything else around that might be competing for the Bluetooth connection.
I did the resetting of network settings this morning and forget this device stuff. I’ll see how it goes at work today.
Well I’ve tried everything suggested here, and emailed Resound. They said to do the same things mentioned here and the problem still exists. I know the phones Bluetooth works fine because I’ve streamed to Bluetooth headphones and no issues. These are only a week old tomorrow. I got them from the Veterans Administration. I only got these so I can stream music all day at work. What should I do?
How about trying to pair the HA’s with another iPhone? If that doesn’t work, in spite of what the audi said, maybe there is something wrong with the HA’s.
I’ll try that later when I’m home, but I’ve tried them with my iPad Pro and have the same results so I believe it’s a hearing aid issue.
How about calling theReSound customer service people set up to handle App connectivity issues? 1-888-735-4327. They’ve worked with me, a few times, for 30 minutes and more.
I think I’m going to tomorrow. Thanks.
I have the Quattro re761 paired to an iPhone xs and an iPad Pro. The HA’s can be paired to multiple devices but only connected to one device at a time. I turn off Bluetooth on my iPhone, then turn on my iPad Pro and connect the HA’s. I have Optimize MFI connection off. The streaming works flawlessly then on the iPad Pro. To go back to the iPhone, I either turn my iPad off or turn the bluetooth off on it, and then turn the bluetooth back on on my iPhone so that device streams.
I’ve tried everything. Nothing works. I finally heard back from Resound support via email and they told me to get them back to audiology. They determined that something is definitely wrong with them. I’ve paired them with other iPhones and iPads and the problem exists on all 4 of hem, yet I can pair all four of them with various other Bluetooth speakers including my tv surround system and stream flawlessly. It’s the hearing aids for sure. My luck. The VA has a walk in repair clinic 3 days a week. Hopefully it is something they can repair there so they don’t have to be sent off for repairs.
I’ll let you all know what becomes of this after I go this Tuesday to the VA.
You certainly have tried everything. I hope they get it resolved for you quickly.
In summary, that’s how it is. And it will always be like that. I use Resound Linx 3D. Same issue. I have these since last May. So, I turned off the iPhone streaming and stopped using the app.
I had recently been getting this usually losing left one drop out on call and music stream, i used to be able to walk quite far away and leave phone onside in same room and never had and cut outs.
Though I have since connected to ipad when on holiday, so will delete and forget these devices on and see if that helps. Thanks for the information.
this is exactly what resound told me. I have iPhone 8 that is connected to carplay in my car, which lives in the garage. I tried to set up and connect to the ipad in the house, but the quattros would not connect. simply turning off Bluetooth on the iPhone then they connected right away to the ipad. it can only be connected to one device at a time
