I have had my KS10s for about 10 weeks and really love them. A big improvement in every way over my previous aids (Phonak B90s) except for one area - wind noise reduction. On the B90s, wind reduction worked really well. Even when riding my bike, the wind reduction combined with lowering the volume by a couple clicks reduced it to the point where I hardly noticed it. However, on my KS10s, wind noise is really loud and annoying. The wind reduction is at the maximum setting but even a moderate wind when outside walking makes it difficult to carry on a conversation. Does anyone have any tips for a setting change that might help? Again, wind reduction is already maxed out.
This has been mentioned on the forum before, this has to do with the microphone placements, they are in different locations, so possibly not much more can be done within the Software, but of course you could try some type of covering on the HA, Ear Gear or something similar.
Hey I have a zany pair of Ear Gear covers! Iâd only put them on when going to the salon to have my hair colored, but I never thought about the wind noise reduction! That is another good use. Thanks for the tip tenkan!
Iâm no expert but maybe having a âwindâ program where when itâs windy, you switch to that program? There must be other adjustments that can be made in that program like lowering the low frequencies slightly to help with wind noise.
When you select that you get too much wind noise on the software, it does actually lower the low frequencies. I canât remember the part of the Phonak software that does it but I think itâs called Phonak Automatic Tuning?
I second wearing âEar Gearâ or a headband. My take is that the issue is the wind hitting the microphone openings (like blowing over an open bottle) and no amount of tweaking the settings is going to help. I often just mute mine when itâs windy. I have KS9, not KS10 but they are very similar.
Yes, my hope was to create a custom âwindâ program but no matter what I try, still way too much wind noise! So I end of muting the mics, but then itâs hard to hear my wife when we walk together. Thanks for the ear gear suggestions, I may try that. Itâs just too bad that my old aids were better in that area.
Oh thatâs really not good. Thatâs a real shame.
My Costco audi even called Phonak and made adjustments they suggested. Which did - nothing.
Headband.
Here is what I use when it is windy or biking:

I make a small hole with a pen style soldering iron in the closed end. Then I remove the dome and slide the foam over the HA. Very effective and cost penniesâŚ
Thanks. Do you need to remove the ear gear every night for charging?
My KS9 arenât rechargeable. I would think one could slide the ear gear up and charge the hearing aids.
Yes, you can slide the ear gear up to recharge the aids.
