I posted about hearing a kazoo sound from my aids. My HA tech at Costco was able to
solve the issue with open domes. Simple fix. Now I hear much better streaming also although it is better still when i push the domes in as I’m listening. Still not totally happy with my 9050s but much improved. I accidentally turned off my right aid while trying to learn how to use the buttom on the aids. My hearing improved. I believe it might be the right aid causing what I believe is sibilance. These aids are not bad but i have given up TV and listening to music because of sound quality. I tried Oticon before the 9050s and sound was good but hearing in noise was a problem for me. I would like to demo the sennheiser since it is another manufacturer and may work better for my hearing loss. I have uploaded my audiogram and saved it but can’t seem to attach it to this message.
You don’t need to. We can access it fine (“Audiogram” underneath your username). Your audiogram shows your two ears with almost identical hearing loss but that doesn’t mean they are in fact identical. There may be subtle distortion in your right ear that’s causing your issues. I’m not saying don’t try different aids but do consider the possibility that there’s nothing wrong with the aids you’ve got. One thing you could do is to ask your fitter to dial down the gain in the higher frequencies by a couple of db (in either the right or both aids) and save this as a new program. You can then go back and forth and compare. This assumes that you can sacrifice one of the four programs you’ve got. This also assumes that your fitter is accommodating. Many of us love Costco but their business model doesn’t lend itself to unlimited tweaking.
Might be worth considering custom canal micro-moulds if the domes don’t sound ‘solid’ without pushing them in further.
Terrific idea about lowering the gain and saving it as a program. I only have 2 programs now. I have thought about the possibility that I may need to live with this problem and it is a dismal one, especially since I have only tried the one brand from Costco. But that may be the case. Costco has been good to me but i agree they are more for people, like my husband, who have no issues with their aids. They pick them up and love them. My store is very busy and getting an appointment is difficult.
Definitely worth considering. I will ask about this.
