Is rice good to dry hearing aid out?

Can we use rice to remove hearing aid moisture when we dont have driers or capsules?

From what I have read, there is concern about dust from the rice affecting the HAs. i am interested in hearing expert opinions.

Up until recently I have been using PerfectDry Lux from Costco. I strongly suspect that the UV light affects the plastics covering the receiver wires, causing them to become brittle and break after about 2 years. Currently, since we are in a dryer season here, I am not using any drying.

I wouldnā€™t use rice. If your humidity levels arenā€™t high, they will dry in room air. A little air movement helps. If you have any silica packets from packaging material, they would absorb moisture from the air in their immediate vicinity. They can be recharged in the microwave.

I have read similar. I am no expert, but would advise erring on the side of caution and get a drying box.

In the past I have used Hal-Hen products.

That s really interesting about the wires becoming brittle due to UV. I lived in Seattle for several years and used my dryer faithfully and didnā€™t have an issue. Maybe I just got lucky. Or was it just sooo damp in Seattle, that saved them. I live in the desert SW now so I no longer need my dryer box. Maybe it will make a good planter. But the wires get brittle here all by themselves and I have to get them changed out. Is it the dryness or the UV?? Itā€™s interesting.

Right now it is just a suspicion. The receivers only last 2 years. The plastic turns yellow and cracks.

Since it is not very humid here currently, I have just been leaving my aids sitting in a case overnight.

Rice is a staple food in Asia. No dust problem. Put a tablespoon of dry rice inside a cloth pouch and it becomes a mini-drying agent for HA. Change it every month. Leave it overnight.

Hmm, I buy empty disposable tea ā€œbagsā€ for steeping my loose leaf tea. I bet those would work great to hold rice.
