Induction stove tops and hearing aid interference

The current issue of Consumer Reports has a letter to the editor about interference/feedback issues with induction stove top ranges. Apparently it’s a big problem with some CIs, and can be an issue with HAs with telecoils.

Someone here posted about this 3 years ago. I’m guessing more people have induction tops now and wondering what your experience has been. Specifically wondering if it would be a problem with HAs with telecoils if you’re not actively in the telecoil program.

I don’t have an induction stove, but just last month I spent a week in a home that has one. I used the stove myself and had no trouble at all. I never turned on the telecoil, but there’s no reason to at home.

I have Oticon OPNs and an induction cooktop. Have not noticed a thing unusual.

We have had induction stoves in out homes for 18 years and I have been wearing hearing aids for 20 years, i haven’t had any issues with inference from the stove.

I have the Oticon Intent 1’s and a Bosch induction stove. I have not had any issues.

i can hear interference noise with my Phonak Naida hearing aids while standing near my switched on induction stove, despite not have any telecoil program, and not using actively telecoil program.

This is interesting. I think Naida’s are a little older? Maybe manufacturers know more people have inductions and are shielding against them. Chuck and Viffer – do you have telecoils?

I also have Oticon Intent 1. Now that I think about it – I used to get a humming interference walking in one short section of our neighborhood, I assume from an electrical transformer. Haven’t had that issue since I got the Intents.

I suppose induction cookers vary, as do hearing aids. I have used both for many years and have no interference currently. May have had many years ago when first trying induction. Now have a drop-in 2-burner and wear my Jabra HAs all the time. No problem.

When I wear Phonak hearing aids and use a pan with a thin metal layer to test the induction cookers, I can hear a lot of noise, replacing the pan with a thicker metal layer is fine. I believe it’s not electromagnetic interference, but rather that the induction cooktop causes extra vibration in pans with thin metal layers or uneven bottoms.

These noises are more pronounced with Phonak and not with other brands of hearing aids。

Good thought. My cookware is all cast iron and I have no problem.

So so are our cookware. Castiron is the only way to cook

I have Phonak hearing aids with a telecoil, though I no longer have a telecoil program and so the telecoil is never active. I definitely notice vibration when I use my induction cooktop, and even more when I use more than one burner. I haven’t experimented with different kinds of pots, and am out of town for a while, so can’t do it right now. From how it feels/sounds, it could easily be electromagnetic interference or vibration.

My Oticon INTENT1 do have t-coils but I don’t have them enabled. There just isn’t any reason for me to need them.

I have had an “Induction Hob” for a few years now, I can hear it, if I am cooking, I also feel the vibration, I do have “Telecoil” but it isn’t switched on, in truth, it doesn’t interfere much, it’s just a low hum, if my wife is cooking, and I am approximately 4 foot away, I hear absolutely nothing from the hob…Phonak Naida Lumity 90 BTE aids, approximately 19 months old, from their release date in November 2023…Cheers Kev

Great! We know what’s good!
I get no feedback from my induction cooker when using and wearing HAs.
