Impulse noises with Jabra Enhance Pro 20 or Select 500

Hello,

Does anyone have experience with how well (or not) the newest Jabra HA’s handle impulse noises?
In general, they look like they could work for me, but I can’t find much specifically on impulse noise handling. (I spoke with their support staff, and they mostly just tried to sell me without providing any actually useful information).

I work in an environment where I need a high level of situational awareness, but there are occasional impulse noises that I don’t want to over-amplify (eg the crack of a pipe falling on a warehouse floor).

Or, please share if you have a recommendation for HA’s that are particularly good at filtering out impulse noises. I’m hoping to go with either a telehealth or Costco option.

Also, has anyone tried to self-program the Select 500’s? From reading this forum, I understand the previous Jabra OTC options were not self-programmable, but according to this Youtube video, the Select 500’s are using the ‘same base chip’ and much the same architecture as the Pro 20’s from Costco.

Thanks!

Yeah good question, one would think it would have GN’s “Impulse Noise Reduction” built-in, you’ll probably have to contact them to confirm, as for setting them up on Jabra website states both a basic set up without support and a premium package with support, so one would think you can DIY with basic package, although it’s not mentioned?

Based on above video and what I can remember when I tried the Select 300 with premium, none of the Select are self-programable.

With premium package the HA are programmed by online test or audiogram. Neither give you REM or in-situ adjusted HA that are adjusted specifically for your ears. Jabra will apply a conservative program that will not be correct for you, unless you are very lucky with matching the low gain generic fit.

If you have not done so get your hearing tested to make sure that your hearing is in the low to moderate loss range for OTC product (free at Costco and there is no pressure to buy). Mine is not but Jabra said it was and tried to convince me to keep the HA. The 300 was adjusted per my up-loaded audiogram but the result was insufficient boost at the lower frequencies and very insufficient at mid and upper frequences. This dramatically reduces speech recognition. This is based on hearing test that was done (not by Jabra) with HA in place, I tried to get the specialists to make corrections, but they can’t because they have no in-situ or REM data to work from. The specialists were wonderful, but they do not have the data to do the job correctly.

The Select product is very good IF you fit OTC and could have them adjusted properly (not possible),

Go to Costco if you have one close enough. You will get a properly fit product, that can be adjusted for losses above and below OTC hearing, for less money ($1500 to $1600), 6 -month return policy that they do without a blink of an eye.
