I need some advice. One or two? And some questions.

So, I recently just got a hearing aid. By recently, I mean today. I have some questions.

I have slight to moderate hearing loss in my left ear. I’ve always had issues with my ears overall when I was younger. But recently, it’s gotten worse so we decided with having a hearing aid on the left ear. Of course, sound is more amplified in the left ear, sounds are also now strange in the right ear. It feels almost muffled? Do I get used to that?
For clarity, hearing in that ear is significantly better than in the left. In fact, it’s adapted so much that I can be sensitive to sounds because of that ear. Mind you, I also have hearing aids for tinnitus.
I am still in the testing phase, I will be back for an appointment in a month.
What are some things I should expect when having a hearing aid? What are things I should look out for?

For those who have used one hearing aid, why do you like it? What are some things you have noticed? What do you recommend for me?

I’m young, about to be an adult so there’s not much I know.

Welcome to the forum, and I hope you will find here what you are looking for.

If you can add your latest audiogram to your profile, this will greatly help.

Not sure about one sided hearing aids, I am sure someone on this forum will help.

Is your tinnitus on both ears?

So you have one hearing aid for your left ear and a pair for your tinnitus?

What make and model of both heaing aids you have?

Some people on this forum are 6 years old (but in reverse) which makes them younger too, so don’t worry about age, there is a full spectrum here.

Good luck

I know my mom as my audiogram so I’ll ask about it. This is probably the first year where I actually have the most knowledge about my ears. Don’t get me wrong, I know the whole history about my ears but not the thechnical part.

But I have tinnitus on both ears, the left ear more frequently (where it has the most damage)
So, they prescribed me for one hearing aid because of this.

I use oticon hearing aids
Oticon Real 1 Minibte R

Give it a few weeks - things will sound different (as in more normal) after your brain gets adjusted to the new imputs. It took me a couple of months when I first got HAs, but I have severe hearing loss.

Alright! Thank you! Will it get easier to hear out of the hearing aid as well? I’ve been having some struggles with that. I have to keep adjusting what my hearing aids “hear” on the app so I can hear better.
So far I don’t have the “plugged ear” sensation as much anymore but, still

Yes on the HA sounds moving to “normal” over time. At least that’s what happened in my case - and it was somewhat dramatic when i realized the difference.

Okay! It’s slowly started to happen but just today I was trying to order some coffee in a noisy environment and I had to have them repeat themselves multiple times. It was very embarrassing.
They were kind of rude, too. So I’m hoping over time my ear gets used to the hearing aid and sounds will feel more normal and easier to hear.
