is there a way to find out how old your hearing aids are? yes you get a receipt but does that really tell you how old they are? could they have been on the shelf for some time? or if you get used aids to find out just how old they are in case the seller says ho i just got them and don’t like them. sure would be nice to have that information.
my audi told me if i got a pair online or off ebay by law she had to keep them and send them back the the mfg. whoever that would be, sounds fishy to me. but i would like to be able to figure out how old the aids are before i was to get any. thanks bp.
yes i figured she was but what can you do. 5 years ago i did not know this site was around so i had no one to talk to it about. and then for being a first time use at that time what you going to do if you take a pair in for fitting and they say sorry but the mfg says if they get them used to take them and send them back it is a law? how would i know about that back then. after being hear and reading some of the comments i know now that is not the case. however when i went to get my audiogram a few weeks ago and they were trying to fit me with those new starkey muse aids they did not want to give my onl ones back. in fact they looked around for 15 minutes or so trying to find them. but that may have been a ruse to get me to go with the new aids.
and thanks for the info on the mfg dates is sounds normal to me to have the date in there somewhere so they know as well.
If my audiologist tried to keep my HA’s that I had bought of Ebay or from some other vendor I would be making a call to the local police department and swear out a complaint to have her arrested for theft. She would not have a leg to stand on.
I have only heard of stores cutting up credit cards at the banks’ instruction if the card has been reported lost or stolen, but then I guess that the credit card actually belongs to the bank, not the person who carries it because the bank just issues the card to people to use. But the hearing aids on the other hand are an entirely different thing because you actually bought and paid for them so they belong to you and the mfg has no ground to instruct anyone to confiscate them from you.
i could turn her in but then i still have included services that she needs to provide. if i turn her in then i loos out on them. even though she is not helping me as much as i need with actual hearing she does still provide other services like free parts when i need them. i have to go back next week and i’m going to discuss this with her and bring the aids i have now from ebay so she can see the program i entered that is working for me. thanks
If the hearing aids were reported lost, and replaced by the manufacturer under the warranty, the manufacturer will confiscate them if sent in for repair.
That is good advice. Though, hearing aid factory repair tends to be expensive.
If you are buying 5+ year old hearing aids from EBay, then you might consider buying a replacement Hearing Aid (again) from EBay because it may be less than the cost of factory repair. Or, perhaps use a third party repair lab to get a better repair price.
I’ve been fortunate to access the software within my digital hearing aid via computer and have been amazed at the information contained, I even found my date of birth in there, so I would not be surprised if there were more detailed data held within containing info on the aid itself.
