Horrible choppy warbling sound from oticon own 2 iic

Hi,

I’ve recently had own 2 iic Hearing aids fitted as an upgrade from the nera pro 2. Sound great however I seem to get this awful artificial fast warbling/choppy sound when the person talking hits certain frequencies.

My 4 year old daughter affects me the most. It sounds as if someone is quickly talking through a fan or the window is down in the car. It’s probably just the hearing aid making a quick adjustment but it’s an uncomfortable and unwelcome sound.

I never had this issue with the nera pro 2 so it must be a new feature.

Does any oticon specialist know how I can turn this off or what feature we need to adjust to eliminate this.

Thanks.

It’s a whistle blocker, it cuts sound to reduce energy of whistling loop.

It’s happening during normal conversation though. Can I turn it off…

Also I’ve noticed that when listening to music in the car it sounds very artificial and sound is like it’s on a small wave going up and down and up and down slightly.

it could be a poor seal, you need to get the ear mold made again or switch to a regular hearing aid which will fix the issue by moving microphone to BTE component

It can be turned off in the hearing aid software (not the app). It sounds like part of the feedback management system.

Your Nera Pro 2 probably use the old feedback analyzer (the traditional reactive feedback management technology). The newer Oticon Own 2 IIC has a new feedback management technology that is supposed to be preventive instead of reactive. It detects the onset of feedback and introduces a series of fluttering noise to dissipate the energy buildup that leads to potential for feedback. While the traditional Feedback Analyzer is still available in the new Oticon aids, it’s probably not activated, but instead the new preventive Feedback Management technology is activated instead. The fluttering you’re hearing is most likely due to this new technology. Your 4 year old daughter affects you the most probably when she talks loud enough to warrant a potential onset of feedback, triggering the fluttering (that you hear) to stave off this feedback.

You can ask your HCP to tone down the Feedback Management setting from Normal to Low (as seen in the screenshot below) in Genie 2 to see if that solves the problem for you or not. If it still does not, then have your HCP turn if to OFF completely, and activate the old traditional Feedback Analyzer instead, most likely like how it was done with your Nera Pro 2.
