I have a HiPro2 (black) that I’ve been using for around 6 months.
All is working well except in some fitting software is not detecting it as a Hi-pro 2 . Today I was trying to update an Oticon OPN software and it didn’t detected the programmer. When I selected hipro 2 or hi-pro didn’t even blinked, however when I selected serial-hipro, it blinked and tried to recognize the hearing aids. IT didn’t work but at least showed processing.
Looks like its being detected like a serial hi pro because of the “USB port: NO”, In other forums I saw that the normal status for a Hi-pro2 is “USB port: YES”.
I also tried to use only the firmware updater without opening Genie, it doesnt work. I used to be able to update these hearing aids with my old hi-pro serial
Ok so it seems you have taken the time to check the basics, I know different countries get the firmware updates at different times, I see your OPNs are on Version 6.0, what is the latest firmware 6.1 or later?
Also is version 2020.1 of Genie 2 the correct version to be using?
And lastly I noticed that on one of your screenshots you have HiPro highlighted instead of HiPro USB as the programming device?
Can’t see how this would make a difference, as Genie has detected whatever device is plugged into your PC, you haven’t got your old HiPro serial port hooked up have you?
As mentioned, this box should not be highlighted. The top box should be highlighted, the one that says recommended. If that fails try the HiPro USB box.
This happened to me once. I had my old serial HiPro connected and my new Noahlink Wireless also connected. The Phonak Target software got confused. Once the serial HiPro was unhooked, the Noahlink Wireless worked fine.
1)There was a new update, I dont remember exactly if it was like 6.1, but the update was what made me want to update the firmware.
2) The way the hi pro is highligthed is the way genie detected it.
3) I dont have connected the serial hi-pro
Maybe the issue could be related to the oticon software? However all the hi-pro usb install screenshots i’ve seen shows “usb port: yes”, instead of the “no” i get. Which makes me think there is something wrong with my installing software or my Hi pro.
Could it be possible that the software installation CD is corrupted? Or that I got a faulty or a fake copy of the Hi-pro?
How is it posible that says “usb port:no” if its conected trough usb?
Yep, so uninstall everything including Genie 2 and reinstall using the supplied CD for your HiPro 2 USB device.
Don’t forget to check for any other old files from your HiPro serial port device, delete them as well.
So with a fresh install of everything I would say you’ll be good to go.
A faulty product, maybe but you can find this out after you do the uninstall/reinstall process.
A fake one, I doubt it, did you check that the serial number is the same as on the HiPro 2 unit as what shows in your screenshot?
I believe its just a setting that’s not quite right.
Well, maybe your Oticon Firmware Updater is different than mine
So let’s talk about my Genie 2 2020.1 /Tools /Open Oticon Firmware Updater
When the HEARING INSTRUMENTS icon is highlighted and you press the DETECT button it will attempt to detect your Hearing Instruments using whatever programming device is/was selected. If you haven’t yet selected a programming device, then the default programming device may be incorrect. Like this intentional error; My real programming device is a HI-PRO USB (more specifically a mini-pro) which gets recognized as HI-PRO USB. But (just for this test) the programming device is intentionally set to HI-PRO, thus I get the error PROGRAMMING DEVICE UNAVAILABLE (see the first image below).
If you get an error that says PROGRAMMING DEVICE UNAVAILABLE then guess what? You have selected the wrong Programming Device or maybe you have failed to select a programming device at all. To fix this error use the pulldown arrow on the side of the DETECT button and select the correct Programming Device.
In my case when I use the pulldown arrow on the right side of the DETECT button and select the correct programming device, which in my case is HI-PRO USB, then Voila, the error disappears and the Oticon Firmware Updater attempts to detect the hearing aids. In this simple test case, the next step of detecting the hearing aids failed. But only because I am not using any hearing aids for this simple test. See the second image below. The important result is that I no longer get the PROGRAMMING DEVICE UNAVAILABLE error.
Well its not the software then, it seems you’ll have the same issue with any other software from any of the other brands.
Did you uninstall the HiPro files, drivers and start with a new install from CD? Start fresh right, com port is for serial port device, it’s a nightmare as you say!
Are you able to try the HiPro 2 on another pc/laptop, honestly it’s some kind of setting/set-up issue that’s causing this.
When you say “But in the firmware updater none of the options works” I assume that you mean;
Using the pulldown menu on the DETECT button and select HI-PRO 2 doesn’t work
Using the pulldown menu on the DETECT button and select HI-PRO USB doesn’t work
Using the pulldown menu on the DETECT button and select HI-PRO doesn’t work
I also assume that all of the three options above produced the error “PROGRAMMING DEVICE UNAVAILABLE”
Does your Control Panel/Device manager show your HI-PRO installed without any driver errors flags? If you right-button-click the HI-PRO device and select properties does it say “This device is working Properly”?
