Hi from Texas!

I’m new to this forum, I am a 75 F who has worn hearing aids since I was 50. Waited too long and lost a lot of speech recognition. Wide ear tubes? SSHL. Ihave just uploaded my pre cochlear implant 8/1/24 hearing test and am including my report. There is another test wearing my old hearing aids but I don’t have it. I am Bimodal about 5 weeks, AB Naida ultra 3 D 90m on the left. Bte with t mic on the left, and Phonak Link M on the right

I have Autosense, calm situation, speech 360, speech in loud noise, all with clear view turned up pretty loud ( will request my mappings don’t know loud it is as I’m just starting out. )

Since I’ve got such a loss at high frequencies I am reading and learning all I can about how to effectively communicate with my Audi. After spending much of this week reading, I know that I need to tell her about some residual sounds that might be dead spots. I use mostly Autosense, try to not wear my Phonak as much as possible, do rehab.

My worst problem is of course speech in very noisy restaurants, and big gathering in our gym-like activity center. My Audi has given me understanding speech in car using speech in 360 ( I’m trying to be able to understand people to the side and behind me) Right now it doesn’t help at all. That’s why I’m trying to educate myself about descriptions and terminology that will better inform her.

Any comments are welcomed!! I will wi soliciting advice

Your just a Baby at 75 years old, should be taken up with an Audiologist who worked with yur Doctor who did the Implant as they can adjust and give better advise than anyone here.Good Luck!Call Med-el Corp as they are the King of Cochlear Implants Worldwide 1-866-716-0706 or audiology.us@medel.com. Even of its not theres they will gladly help.

About the same age. Similar history. I’m not a candidate for CI.

I spent a year and a half trying to get my hearing aids set up. Then my audi and I parted ways. Things got better after I left.

I used to think that the way to hear better was to turn the volume up.

Now I know the person setting them up is so much more important than the hearing aids I have. Without that skill being applied, my hearing aids are just dust collectors.

There are some professionals here who can help you a lot.

My history…I was told a long time ago that my brain had to adapt to my hearing aid use and then I would hear better. My thought was “yeah sure…” But it was right.

I should have worn my hearing aids more. I do now. Often 17 hours a day. Hope this helps.

My hearing loss was sorta similar to yours. I did not have high frequency hearing for many years. Because of this the high frequencies were the last thing for me to learn/understand. This may be the case with you as well.

You haven’t mentioned what your word understanding scores are on only that CI. That would be helpful.

Speech understanding in noisy environments is challenging for anyone with hearing loss. Your word understanding will improve in quiet long before you do better in noise. It will get better in noise with practice.

There are a number of CI people here on the forum that will help you if asked.

Good luck and hang in there.
