Hearing aid Not Working

Hello,

My day didn’t start off right as my right hearing aid (my best ear) stopped working! I have no idea why. Since I had it last year, it was doing the job perfectly.
I’m in Safaga where there are no hearing aid companies. If it doesn’t work, I have to wait until I travel to Cairo next month. Even then, I’m not sure whether the Phonak Egypt wouldn’t mind checking it out as I didn’t buy it from them!

Any thoughts on what I should do? Or if there’s something I can do to learn why the hearing aid isn’t working?

In the meantime, I have a backup hearing aid, Widex Evoke, so now, I’m wearing two different kinds of hearing aids; Naída M70 and Evoke.

You could try switching the receivers from the right to left and see if it is the aid or receiver .
You would need a small pin to push the pin in on the aid near the plug and then pull the wire out of the HA.

The Naida is BTE , so not possible to swap the external receiver between left/right device.

@Zeeza , try to clean the battery compartment and the contacts inside. You could use a cotton swab. Then check this contact (see blue arrow below) if this contact need adjustment that it shows a bit more to the inside in direction to the battery. You can use a toothpick to push the contacts in the correct place.

Red arrows showing the place of the two battery contacts.

The picture are from my Naida UP , the contacts on your Naida SP are on the same place.

Is this one battery contact , see blue arrow , in the correct place?

If you have this white little filters/dampers inside of the ear hooks then it could happen that this damper is clogged. See green arrow.

Try to swap the ear hooks between the devices. To find out if it is a clogged damper/filter.

You can unscrew the hooks from the HA body

I took off my left hearing aid and looked at both. Nothing looked different! I brushed it and changed the battery at the first beginning.

Does swap mean to remove it or just turn it around?

To find out if the little white damper/filter is clogged, exchange the hooks between the aids, to test the right hook on the left hearing aid and vice versa.

How can I remove the hook safely without breaking it? Will I be able to put it again easily?
Sorry for the questions! I just want to make sure I’ll do right!

Here is a download link for a video showing how to unscrew the hook and put it back to the HA

The next video shows how I remove the tube from the hook.

Have yo checked the microphone openings?

Can you see through the front mic opening?

And the back mic opening is clean?

You are getting some good advice.
If your hooks have the white cotton ball looking thing try pushing some fishing line through the hook and just get that white ball out of the hook.
Also, have you verified the tube is not plugged at the mold? Run fishing line through the sound tube and ear hook to verify.
When you close the battery door with a fresh new battery, does the aid do anything? Does the door snap shut?

Inspect the tubing closely if it have a crack , if the tube is broken the tube needs to be replaced

Tubing can crack if it get hard and can break in that area. If that happen the sound will become faint and poor

@firenzel, I don’t know how to thank you for all the instructive tips you’re sharing here.
I managed to get the hook off and it seems the problem is in the filter! When I removed the hook the hearing aid was beeping but as soon as I put the hook again,it stopped beeping!

What’s a fishing line? Is there alternative to that fishing line?

If you have a hearing aid dryer. Put the hearing aid in the drier for a view hours

I don’t have one! I don’t even have a hair dryer!

You can push or pry the the filter out of the hook.
Maybe try with a fine needle

Fishing line is thin monofilament used to catch fish.
It’s also great to use cleaning out your hearing aids sound tubes and hooks.

Tell us what your hearing aid is doing or not doing. It will help us help you.

A baggie of rice would work overnight. Something they probably do have.

Probably the filter got clogged due to moisture from sweat that collects inside the tube.
You can try to remove the little filter. Or stick a needle through the filter to get a hole inside. You could also exchange the hooks, that you have the working hook on you good ear side. But I would suggest to regularly remove moisture inside the tubes. Especially if you don’t have the filter in the hook. Because the filter is protecting the inside of the hearing aid speaker.

The hook for Naida is available in two variants and two sizes “normal” and “mini”.
Normal is for adults
Mini is for childs
HE11 is ear hook without filter
and
HE11 680 is the ear hook with filter inside.

Simple cleaning and drying the tubes from moisture with thin layer of tissue or piece of toilet paper.

Can performed everywhere
