Visiting South East Asia from October. I was wondering if this would be okay for my KS 10’s. Phonak make a similar item, but they say it is not suitable for rechargeable aids. Anyone know of a reason why that would be?
I also would be taking along a pair of battery operated aids.
I use this one.
I use the Perfect Dry Lux, from researching reviews here. Suitable for rechargeable. Works fine with my P90s. Available on Amazon for about $60.
The reason would be that most HA dehumidifiers use more heat (higher temp) than is good for the rechargeable batteries. You need one specifically for rechargeables.

I use a USB powered dehumidifier that is also UV-c sanitizer. Being USB powered, I can still take it camping and on travel, with a backup battery power pack
The dehumidifier you show has beads that take up water to remove it from the aids and surrounding air in the jar. I use something similar and find it works best if I put the beads into the microwave for 30s on high to drive water off, which I do about once a month in the Boston, MA climate.
The dehumidifier is not expensive, you could buy 2 if you will be away for a time, so you always have dry enough beads to soak up moisture.
I hope you have a great trip.
To all forum members who have given me advice on the various dehumidifiers. Thank you.
Thanks Barb, My daughter lives in New Zealand, so we have decided to meet half way, Vietnam. Starting off in Hanoi, working our way south to Ho Chi Minh, then onto Cambodia and Thailand. 36 days in all. So yes, looking forward to a great trip.
I’ve read that the upper limit for rechargeable HA’[s is 104 degrees F. The Perfect Dry goes to 113%. The price is right and I love the UV light for disinfection (atho the ad doesn’[t mention that…does it disinfect?).a great product if it’[s not too hot my rechargeables…
A couple of years ago, I was in Samoa for three weeks. One of my confrere took my on a hike to see an ancient sacred tree. We got back to the car and found it with 1 flat tyre.
My HA’s had already full of sweat and were beginning to block up, So the hot bonnet of the car became a good candidate to dehumidify my HA’s, while we waited several hours for support.
I had Phonaks rechargeable hearing aids and I used Phonak’s Hearing aid drying capsules .
They are obviously ok for your rechargeable aids. I have since moved on to new aids that are not rechargeable but still use the capsule loose in the hearing aid box. Interestingly enough my rechargeable aids charger container came with the capsules and a place for them in the charger. Amazon sells these capsules.
I also use a Perfect Dry Lux with KS10’s and have not tried to measure the temperature except by feel. The aids are comfortably warm but not hot after the 1/2 hour drying time.
I always turn off the aids before putting them in the dryer. Then when they are done, I put 'em in the charger but don’t plug it in until early morning (I usually get up to turn off my “Indian alarm clock” @ ~ 5-6 am.) Then I plug in the charger and my aids are usually ready when I need them but I avoid having them sit for hours fully-charged, which I believe is not good for the batteries.
Likewise, I charge my PHEV car to 80% except when I’m about to use it.
This was the dryer recommended by the audiologist. It was specifically safe for the rechargeable units. Works great, not just for hearing aids but anything that can fit inside - my normal earbuds, etc. I also dry my Eargo units in here.
It sounds like it will be a fascinating and enjoyable trip with so much to see! I hope you all have easy travels and a wonderful time.
I use this: ReNew® Hearing Aid Dryer & Freshener - Model DB-100 – Serene Group, Inc.
It works great. I had the type of dryer that had desiccant beads that had to be cooked every few days. The Renew dryer is better. It is electric and has a low-powered heater to dry my aids. I have battery powered aids, but it would work for rechargeables. Just not while they’re charging.
Raw rice is one of the best dehumidifier for HA. There are a lot of raw rice in Vietnam. Raw rice is a common commodity in Vietnam. A air tight capsule will do. Wrap the raw rice in a tissue and put the Hearing aids on top of the tissue and place it inside the air tight capsule. 2 -3 hours will be fine. The raw rice is good for a week.
