I wear Naída M70 SP.
During the last few weeks, I used to put on only the right hearing aid (I had both only when I go out) as I had a kind of bump in my left ear and I wanted to allow it the time to heal.
Would there be any negative effects on the hearing aids if I keep doing that for a long time?
And in general, what kind of parts do I need to pay attention to, to keep the hearing aids in the best condition, apart from keeping it away from moisture and sweat?
This refers to your hearing rather than the aids.
When you don’t wear your hearing aid or aids your hearing word understanding can go down due to lack of stimulation. Your brain needs to be continually stimulated to have the best word understanding. I know this from my own experience.
As far as your aids go, keeping them dry and and in a clean place is great storage for them.
As far as maintenance I always kept spare sound tubes. Always put my aids in a hearing aid dryer every night. Pushed some fishing line through the sound tube and ear hook once every few weeks. I worked outside and sweat a lot. Those aids you have are nice ones, I had the same ones for a few years.
Is the decline reversible? Or once it happens, it never recovers!
I had to not wear it because of that bump/ wound. Still, sometimes I feel I don’t want to have my hearing aids on. I don’t know if others feel the same or understand it. I just feel tired of having them and need a break, especially during these days when I have trouble with my ear.
Getting lost word understanding back can be done but it takes a little time to get it back.
I am not an expert about this but not wearing your aid for a couple weeks to heal should not damage your word understanding.
My experience not wearing my aids was during a house building project that lasted about a year. This was in southern Louisiana where it’s hot and very humid. My excuse was the hearing aids were constantly wet from sweat and stopped working all the time from this so I stopped wearing them for about a year. This really lowered my word understanding. When I got back to wearing the aids I realized this it took about 5-6 months to get most of that word understanding back but not all of it. From that point on my hearing continued to get worse from past and present noise exposure. I now am bilateral CI and do very well with them.
Do you know what is causing the bump on your ear? Can you fix what’s causing it?
I’m glad to know you’re doing with the Bilateral CI!
I have no idea! I took it twice to the store to have it polished. It felt fine in the beginning but later it caused this bump! Now, my ear feels better, after applying a positional cream for a few weeks. I had a scar now but at least no more pain!
