Heading to Costco (2023)

Sure sounds like you need to go to any Costco and tell them what you just told us. Give them a chance to make this right. There may be more than one issue here.

How old are the wax traps?

I doubt the streaming would be A+ and regular ambient hearing D- both at the same time due to wax traps. I’d expect the streaming to be a bit lousy too.

During streaming the microphones are not being used.
Not streaming they are.

That’s why I asked if they were clear.

I believe streaming goes directly to the speakers, bypassing the wax filters. The filters are between your HAs and the sound from people you want to hear, and blocked filters will stop the sound from getting to the speakers.

My experience is: with domes, a dead HA is likely to be the wax filter; with molds that have an opening, it’s probably wax in the open tube.

In any case, though, you have to take the aids back to Costco to find out. They’ll show you how to change the filter if you ask, and they’ll give you filters at no extra charge. And if the filters aren’t the problem, they’ll be able to solve that, too.

Thanks for the replies.

Definitely not the wax guards. At my appt 3 weeks ago HA specialist said they were fine. The aids weren’t functioning then either but thought it was bad receivers.

Yes but the wax filters are fitted to the outlet of the receivers
( speakers) So blocked wax filters will have the same effect on streaming from your HAs.

Doh! :slightly_smiling_face:

You’re right, of course.

If you don’t make mistakes, you are not doing anything.
At least that is my excuse.

well, yes…you’re making things worse. But at least you’re trying! I do exactly the same thing, by the way.

Indeed I’ve had intermittently poor performance from hearing aids either because of either wax guards that need replacement or receivers that need replacement. Sometimes wax guards can clog up within a week or so, and receivers may need replacement once, maybe twice in a calendar year, in my experience.

The first thing my audiologist will do if I complain about this is ask me if I can hear feedback from the aids. But I can’t always hear feedback if both aids aren’t working well. With an aid powered up and a charged battery, he closes his hand over the aid and listens for a whistle. If he doesn’t hear it, he suspects the receiver needs replacement, which he also checks with his gear.

Behind the ear aids might be a better choice for you if RIC aids tend to be a problem due to wax and moisture.

Or…get a Jodi-vac or some other vacuum style cleaner for your aids.

My custom molds don’t use wax guards at the outer edge. That freaked me out at first but now I love it. It’s easy enough to brush off wax from the outer rims and body of the molds, and then use a Jodi Vac for the vents and inner canals…whatever the term is.

What does mic input mean on an iPhone when I triple click the power button?

I’ve played with on and off. Guessing it might be for phone calls.

Heading to Costco on Friday for another follow up on HAs not picking up anything

Yep, it’s for phone calls. “On” means the hearing aid mics pick up your voice. “Off” means the iPhone mic picks up your voice.

Well…

I must be oblivious / in denial/ don’t trust my regular hearing as these HAs probably stopped working for me in Oct/Nov and with holidays and being sick it took until Jan for me to get to Costco (1 hour away). That appointment didn’t go well as noted earlier.

So that means these HAs barely made it 6 months.

Back there today and explained my problem (no outside sounds coming through) and what we did last time (new receiver) and still felt like wearing ear plugs.

Although I emailed all of this information in January and again last Friday, the emails don’t actually find their way to the specialist.

So tonight it was determined that the amplifiers might be bad but they definitely need replaced. So I have a loaner pair and now I remember what sounds I’m supposed to hear.

Should not have let that drag out like I did - too much going on.

I got new aids on Saturday. Still jabra 10.

Tuesday night I’m sitting at my kid’s karate class and suddenly the right aid goes silent.

It appeared to have shutdown/reboot.

Anyone else have this happen or know what it could be?

The previous pair did the same thing before they ultimately stopped picking up sounds altogether

Thanks in advanced.

Did it stay silent or did it start working again? Replacing the wax filter is often successful for fixing aids that stop working.

Wax filters have never been an issue for me. (Since 2015)

Plus these are only 3 days old. Assuming they really are new
