Heading to Costco (2023)

I have the Jabra battery version. I have seen too many cases , usually medical emergency, where someone wound up with uncharged hearing aids and no way to charge them.

I replaced the wax guards and the domes and so far I’m not feeling that plugged feeling.

I didn’t see anything visible with the old wax guards or domes to suggest there was a build up but was definitely worth trying that first since I have an ample supply. I live 45 minutes from several Costco’s so not a quick trip.

I’ll have to see how the next few days go. With my bad hearing I am the worst judge of whether anything hearing related is working normally.

I continue to struggle especially with hearing people talk at work. Especially those that appear to be low talkers (for hearing impaired)

Whether it’s in my office or the conference room I could be right near the person and the HAs just don’t seem to be picking up their voice.

I have closed domes this time around as my previous pair used open domes.

I’ve tried adjusting the settings on the all around program through the app and also tried the ultra focus program.

Anyone else have similar issues and know of any settings to adjust? This way I can be prepared when I go to Costco appointment

I feel like the aids are too quick to self adjust to noises and it’s doing similarly for conversations. But I just don’t trust my hearing anymore and realize it just could be the new norm for me.

You didn’t say what model you have. There should be some programs you can choose. Try those and see if any are better than the others. The best one could be set as the default.
Good luck

With some people, I just have to boost volume/amplification until I can hear them, and sometimes even that doesn’t work. There’s one guy I’d really like to hear (because I hear good stuff from him when I hear him), but it’s a losing battle. Also, I struggle in reverberant rooms. For meetings, if you have Jabra aids, the Multi mic helps me a LOT, even in reverberant rooms.

Doesn’t matter. That was a long time ago.

EDIT: reading up, I see that you did this. Never mind!

The receivers were the issue so they got replaced with new ones.

Made some other adjustments based on situations I described so we will see.

Also setup my account for remote adjustments as that was never done.

Right back to where I was with these HAs not picking up sounds.

They stream from my phone like a champ but I can be at the dinner table at home and not hear people talking.

I had to wfh for a few weeks but back in office and having a hard time hearing people in the conference room.

It’s like I have ear plugs in and the HAs aren’t even trying to pick up the voices. Even the dog’s bark isn’t coming through them or if I stand right next to the center channel speaker. I used to hear the water running and then the HAs would back off the sound but now they aren’t.

So either my ears are broken or the HAs.

Thinking about going for a second opinion at a different Costco.

Anyone else experience any of these scenarios?

Have you cleaned the mic openings? There are perhaps other reasons it could be, but that is the question that came to my mind.

Sure sounds like you need to go to any Costco and tell them what you just told us. Give them a chance to make this right. There may be more than one issue here.

How old are the wax traps?

I doubt the streaming would be A+ and regular ambient hearing D- both at the same time due to wax traps. I’d expect the streaming to be a bit lousy too.

During streaming the microphones are not being used.
Not streaming they are.

That’s why I asked if they were clear.

I believe streaming goes directly to the speakers, bypassing the wax filters. The filters are between your HAs and the sound from people you want to hear, and blocked filters will stop the sound from getting to the speakers.

My experience is: with domes, a dead HA is likely to be the wax filter; with molds that have an opening, it’s probably wax in the open tube.

In any case, though, you have to take the aids back to Costco to find out. They’ll show you how to change the filter if you ask, and they’ll give you filters at no extra charge. And if the filters aren’t the problem, they’ll be able to solve that, too.

Thanks for the replies.

Definitely not the wax guards. At my appt 3 weeks ago HA specialist said they were fine. The aids weren’t functioning then either but thought it was bad receivers.

Yes but the wax filters are fitted to the outlet of the receivers
( speakers) So blocked wax filters will have the same effect on streaming from your HAs.

Doh! :slightly_smiling_face:

You’re right, of course.

If you don’t make mistakes, you are not doing anything.
At least that is my excuse.

well, yes…you’re making things worse. But at least you’re trying! I do exactly the same thing, by the way.
