OK now you are getting me to consider batteries and I just picked up my rechargeable jabras Wed.
Yeah Rick, they are cheap…. I just like the reassurance of they’ll last a while! Over the years, I have sanded more moulds than I care to remember you just have to take your time, and use very fine sandpaper…. Cheers Kev
I wear my Jabras 16 hours a day or so, streaming two to four hours a day, and always have a 60% charge left. I could never go back to fumbling with batteries.
I know - I tend to be down to about 40-60% at the end of the day although I charge them every night. It really is easy
Update : my fitter had the missing m&rie filters.
We swapped the left receiver from a 2 to a 3 and put a closed dome on. The calibration no longer complained that the left side may feedback, but I still had a noise issue with the left ear.
We swapped back to the tulip dome and the issue went away. We did not recalibrate after that and called it a day. Hopefully this will continue to work as it doesn’t make a lot of sense.
After about 2 months with my Jabra Enhance Pros I was pretty happy with them. My hearing was much improved with them. However, they were the only HA’s I had tried for longer than about 10 minutes. I had trialed the KS10s and the Rextons along with the Jabras, but the trial was a 5-10 minute walk around the Costco warehouse. I didn’t want to settle for the Jabras without trying at least one other HA, so I went back to my Audiology Dept at Kaiser and asked to trial the Oticon More. I had gone there initially for my first hearing test and then a consultation where the various form factors and pricing structure was explained. Their HA’s start at $2500/pair for their bottom tier and go up to $6000 for their top tier. The pricing was significant and I wasn’t sure how much HA’s would help me, so I decided to start at Costco.
I recently got my Oticon Mores for trial. The audiologist set them up to my full prescription rather than starting at a lower comfort setting, and I agreed to that. At Costco, the Jabras were set up with a comfort setting (I think 80%) and were supposed to automatically transition to full strength over a one month period. The first difference I noticed with the Oticons was that the default volume level was way louder than the Jabras. Going from the Jabras to the Oticons was about as big a jump as going from no aids to the Jabras. I asked my Costco HAD (Hearing Aid Dispenser) about that. He said that “we” reduced the gain to improve comfort, but I don’t recall any discussion on that. As a separate issue, I wanted to try closed domes instead of the tulip domes that were originally fitted in hopes of improving feedback and music streaming. Both were acceptable to me, but I thought they could be further improved. I asked my HAD to change the domes and do anther REM with my full prescription. The Jabras are now a lot louder, but still not as loud as the Oticons. I can understand speech better now, but there is a noise issue I’ve had since the beginning and it seems worse with the full prescription. It is a popping/staticy sound that may be the same as noted by other posts in this forum. I hear the popping when water is splashing in the sink, when I’m sweeping dry crackling leaves on my concrete patio, and when handling/crumpling some types of paper and plastic packaging. I hear the staticy sound when voices are playing loudly on TV. I heard it during the medium and loud passes of the REM. Early on, I had my HAD increase the Impulse noise setting on my music program from its default value of OFF to the next higher setting. I have my music program configured to use the M&RIE receivers and it gives me a clean natural sound which I like so I use it often. The setting change didn’t seem to make any difference. I didn’t want to increase the setting further because I want to keep my music program as clean as possible.
For me, this noise issue is a deal breaker for the Jabras. So far, I have not encountered any such issues with the Oticon. My question is whether anyone else has encountered this problem with the Jabras (or Resound One) and found a solution. I have another follow-up with my HAD later this month and would like to have some things to try.
I have the jabra and do not have those noises - but that is based on my interpretation of the sound. I’m reading that it sounds like something wrong, like static, instead of how the HA is interpreting the sound.
I had the oticon more briefly (in for a 15 min appt) and although I think it sounded a little better, I did not see it being 3-4x better. Also, in comparing the philips 9030 and jabra (the former I had for over a month) I frequently walk in high wind and the philips had a lot of static. The jabras sound like wind - that is the biggest thing for me…
If the Jabre M&RIE is set to Omnidirectional in Directionality rather than M&RIE the sound can be harsh and tinny. I have it set to M&RIE and the sound is very natural.
I set it to m&rie myself. I like it quite a bit. However I do have one weird side effect. With my iPhone, whenever the phone goes to streaming mode, ie a game with sound, video, etc… The audio streaming mode turns off the in ear mic so the sound changes slightly. Very annoying and not a setting I could find in smart fit.
Don’t know if it’s an available setting in the Smart 3D app or equivalent for the Jabras, but is something like “Hear All” available in whatever ReSound app one uses with the Jabras and does tapping the button for Hear All, improve the input to the external mics, maybe restoring the M&RIE mic to some degree. With the Quattro’s the external mic volume is turned down while streaming and Hear All restores it, but you still have the streaming jabber in your ears, making it harder to decipher environmental sounds and speech.
I’ll have to check that out. I suspect it is intentional in that the streaming mode makes changes to the program, so to speak. It’s annoying since some games/programs I use initiate it and I can hear the change
I am new to Hearing Tracker and this is my first post. I have a question regarding the Jabra Enhanced Pro PM that Costco sells vs the Resound ONE rechargeable models. I have read elsewhere that the Jabra is a rebranded Resound ONE. Is this true? If so, what model of Resound ONE is it closely related to? The Jabra Enhance Pro PM model number I am interested in purchasing is PM861-DRWC. The closest Resound ONE model numbers are: RT961-DRWC (Premium) and RT761-DRWC (Advanced). Based on these model numbers, is it reasonable to assume the Jabra at level 8 is between a Resound ONE Premium at level 9 and Advanced at level 7? This is important to me and to anyone else interested in the Jabra’s because a pair can be purchased at Costco for $1800 which is more the 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of the Resound ONE’s.
P.S. The user manuals of the Jabra’s and Resound ONEs are nearly identical including the General Specification table values. However, I can find no detailed feature list for the Jabra’s.
Thanks in advance for any additional info,
Welcome to the forums :). The jabra are the same as the resound one 9 - the top of the line. The only difference is that costco will not program the tinnitus software (although it’s present and operational). That program is very hit or miss by person anyway…
My wife tried on the Resound ONE 9’s at a local hearing center and liked the tinnitus masking feature, Can the DIY’er enable this feature in the Smart Fit software and can it be controlled in the Smart 3D app?
Absolutely. I turned it on. It didn’t do much for me unfortunately so I disabled it.
Yes it can, the good thing with Resound is they have one of the better UI for the tinnitus controller.
There’s a lot of different masking that you can choose from in the software, did you try to find one that suits? Finding just the right pitch, is the hardest part I think. Good thing is you can experiment to find which works best for you.
Yeah there is the option of the different sounds (white, brown, etc…) and the nature sounds. I have a fairly consistent tone at about 9k which is a bit higher than it does really well. Actually when it is really bothersome I turn on the background sounds from the iPhone and use rain and that works ok…
A couple weeks ago, my wife tried the Jabra Enhance Pro hearing aids at Costco. She really liked them because they sounded very natural. However, at that time, I knew absolutely nothing about these aids and therefore decided to wait to purchase. Since then I have researched and learned these aids are rebranded Resound ONE 9’s with M&RIE capabilities. I later called Costco and discovered my wife demoed the standard MP receivers with small Open fit domes. We then made another appointment to demo the M&RIE receivers which is coming up this next Tuesday The ergonomics of the M&RIE receivers make sense and would like to fully pursue them. However, my wife has very small ear canals and likes the open fit ear domes. She has mild to moderate hearing loss. Are the M&RIE receivers compatible under these circumstances.
Yeah I get this, like mind over matter!
The M&RIE are suitable for mild/moderate hearing loss, although they say they shouldn’t be used for severe/profound, a couple of members have used them with good results.
As to whether she will be able to use the M&RIE, only she will know on the day, very small canals could be an issue tho.
My loss is moderately severe to severe (audigram in my profile), and am wearing Jabra’s with M&RIE receivers and the new Resound closed domes (not power domes). I like them a lot (no feeback).
