Due to the continued issues with BT streaming only pushing sound to one aid, or alternating from one side to the other, I filed a medical device complaint with the FDA.
I had just got off the phone with GN support, who admitted they have no forecast to ever fix these issues. They blame Android 12, yet still provide a list of compatible phones, all which now use Android 12. The support person just makes excuses, over and over. They said the same thing back in December as they said today, that it’s everyone’s fault, except GN. This is totally unreasonable for a medical device. Due to my unequal loss, if it streams to my bad ear, I’m lost.
The issue to me is the false advertisement of their medical devices and the continuation of false advertisements. Their aids are not compatible with Android, they admit it, yet still advertise that they are compatible.
I encourage anyone having BT issues with your aids, to go to the FDA website and file a formal complaint because GN certainly isn’t correcting this from customer complaints. Maybe the FDA can provide a little nudge, or at least get them to stop falsely advertising their medical devices.
It s just your aids all hearing aid brands have issues and it isn’t just with android it is also with IOS devices too. There are a number of reasons why this is happening, android just isn’t as mature as IOS, and I believe that either apple and Google aren’t giving the needed information to the companies or the companies are too limited by the need to use the low in hearing aids.
Simple. Then the aid manufacturers need to stop advertising that their aids are BT compatible. Instead, they are using BT as a selling point
There is true Bluetooth then there is ever other variations of Bluetooth. MFI and android ASHA is a subset and not true Bluetooth Bluetooth. True Bluetooth is at this time still way to power hungry. That should improve over the next few years. I left android and went to IOS. Because MFI was the best I could get for connectivity to my aids back I. 2014 and I still feel that way, I use iPhone and my wife the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 I have experimented with both with my More1 aids and iPhone still wins my challenges. I am no longer married to IOS or android or windows or any other devices I use what works the best for my hearing needs
My friend has just upgraded from the Phonak Naida Q70 UP to the Phonak Naida B90 UP.
She didn’t want to bother with the Phonak Naida P90 UP and all the hassle with Bluetooth. She’s just read poor things all the time about connectivity.
Unfortunately if I don’t have streaming capability then I can’t handle calls
My friend doesn’t use the phone at all. I think that’s another reason why she didn’t bother with the P90s as well.
I get what you are saying. But my complaints are with the false advertisements. They obviously know this is a major issue. Yet they still advertise Android BT compatible. This shows me the manufacturers could care less about reputation or honesty or if the aids even work as claimed and are using their monopoly to claim whatever they like, regardless of if it works or not. This is why I suggest filing a formal medical device complaint withnthe FDA.
The problem you will run into is that they are staying just inside the legal wording that covers they butts. As someone that worked with engineers and engineering departments, the frustration is that marketing departments really run the companies and not the developers and engineers
Yes. But I will say that I returned my Jabra’s because of this and got my OPN s1’s for $200 used and got some Resound One’s for $900 used and will never buy a new aid from GN or Oticon again. I am self programming and can’t see dropping $2-6k on new aids that don’t even work as claimed.
Even though I got cheap pricing on offerup, I still feel ripped off.
Seems odd that the manufacturers are okay with so many customers feeling the same
I get my aids from the VA, but I can choose what aids I want. The most important thing for me is can the basic aids do what I need to hear and understand speech, and I am not talking about connectivity at all here. I view connectivity as a bonus and not a make or break for my hearing needs. For short calls, for most TV shows, and live music I don’t need connectivity and that is my preference. If connectivity is your make or break then in my opinion you are putting the cart before the horse.
God forbid a hearing aid company offers a refund
I require connectivity due to my loss. If you don’t, thats great.
I bought used aids because I wasn’t going to pay for features that are not available. To me, it like buying a car with A/C and the A/C doesn’t work. The car can still be used for transportation, sure, but will be uncomfortable many times and i didnt getnwhat i paid for. Same with my aids, uncomfortable to use for calls and not getting what I paid for.
Anyone using the Phone Clip’s to overcome these issues? I love my TV streamer, never drops one aid, always connects and sounds amazing. Wondering if a phone clip might offer same?
you have to understand something we are not the customer of our hearing aids, the audiologist is. I get my aids from the VA and the VA is the customer, and the companies even feel like they don’t have to talk to us. That is why if we complain the canned comment is talk to your audiologist.
Yes, and exactly why I suggested end users need to file medical device complaints directly with the FDA
My linx quattros would only stream in one ear after I upgraded my Galaxy S10e to Android 12. Luckily I was able to downgrade back to Android 11 using developer tools. Streaming works fine now.
For what it’s worth, I’m using an iPhone XS Max (hand-me down from wife) while awaiting the iPhone 14 release.
I find streaming phone calls works great with ReSound Quattro’s and MFI (have to speak into phone mic, don’t have hands-free with Quattros). The great phone connectivity was true with both the iPhone 6S and now the XS Max. It has seemed with the update of iOS 15.x versions that something went south a bit on streaming (sorry if this is already covered in another thread somewhere on this forum - just point me in the right direction).
Here’s what happens when I’m out walking at night. Streaming to my HA’s will be great but when I walk by certain houses, the streaming just cuts out. Sometimes the Apple podcast player just stops playing. Other times my HA’s also get disconnected from my iPhone. I think since it’s always the same houses that I pass by in ~the same locations on the street, that it’s some sort of EMI emanating from the houses. At first it was just a house or two, then a half dozen or so of the 102 residences in our neighborhood. I was too lazy to start carefully tracking iOS version vs. behavior out on the street but the recent update to iOS 15.3.1 seems to have considerably improving streaming reliability vs. walking around the neighborhood. 99% of the time it works great. It’s just going by certain houses that things go south. I think with MFI, Apple probably devotes the most effort as to how it works with their devices and probably lets HA firmware developers chase after their coattails. Since I’m using an iOS device that’s ~4.5 years old (and before that, one that was 6 years old), perhaps that’s just what I get for not going with the latest tech in smartphones.
Do let us know what you hear back about your complaint.
That is my next fun chore! Where you able to keep all of your old data after downgrading? Tnx
Jim I get that at times with my iPhone 13 with the ISO15.3.1 I believe it is WiFi or other radio signal interference. I wish I could have kept my spectrum meters that I had for when I was working, for determining radio interference. Aids use and need very small amount of signal strength to function, Bluetooth is like internet connectivity it is two way, the aids receive a signal an it has to acknowledge the packet count of of what it received. If the aids doesn’t respond to the phone or the phone doesn’t respond to the aids in a certain amount of time then the connection fails and the aids will try to reconnect as will the phone. This activity is very power hungry and discharges the aids and the phone. And other signals in the area that is strong enough to override the signal between the aids and the phone.
Also with the IOS 15 the switched on Bluetooth to LE in the firmware, that is why hands free is even available. LE is a less strong signal and classic Bluetooth is a stronger signal, which is less likely to be overrun by Wifi.
Just read that IOS 15.4 will be released next week
