Getting ready to DIY my new to me hearing aids

Finally had my hearing tested and as I have known for a long time I need hearing aids. I am outraged at the cost and fortunately found this website.

Just after my hearing test but just before my Audiologist was giving me a try pair, a good friend of mine passed away. When visiting with his Widow and asking her to repeat herself several times, she said “I’m going to throw my husbands aids away, do you want them?”. Briefly feeling uncomfortable she said “try them and if you can’t use them throw them away”. I accepted them and thanked her so I have a set at no cost.

I then got the try pair of top of the line Phonak RIC’s and they work great and was quoted $6200 (heart palpitations!). I asked the Audiologist about reprogramming the free TH Premium RIC Li 19’s and she said $750 and if new receivers are needed they are $85 each. Told her I would consider my two options. Well I decided from what I have learned here, I’m going the DIY route with the free HA’s…

This is what I received:
TH Premium RIC Li 19 aids with charger. Tested the batteries and I get an easy 20 hours to 10%.
Receivers are 2S with 8mm open domes.
The Phonak try pair were also S with open domes. I’m not sure if they were 2, 3, or 4S and also not sure of the dome size.

I have ordered a Noahlink Wireless 2 Programmer which should arrive within a week.

Here are some questions:

  1. I need the Connexx software, can someone please help me on this?
  2. Receiver fit. With the aids inserted the receiver wire doesn’t go in front of the my ear Helix but over the forward portion of it. I believe I will need a 3S or 4S receiver. I have not found how to measurer for the receiver size and don’t know what my try pair was or if I even noticed how the wire laid. Any help on this measurement would be appreciated. I verified that the S receiver with open domes fits my audiogram.

Thanks in advance and great site!

Yeah good on you, sounds like a great deal, nothing wrong with hand me downs, Connexx is pretty easy enough to navigate as well, yep I’d try a longer size 3 receiver, dome size doesn’t matter as they are easily available online or from your local clinic.

Check out this, shows the template used to determine the correct receiver.

Thanks Tenkan…a question.
The Connexx S/W in [Hearing Aids] does not list the TH Premiums that I have. Once I receive my Noahlink and connect with Connexx will they “appear” in the [Hearing Aid] list? Or is there something else that I am missing?

Thanks,
Ed

Ps. I found a scaled RIC fitting template that I found quite useful. Here is the link:

Welcome to the forum, great your giving DIY a go, be sure to do some research and read the user guides before starting, you’ll need the Noahlink wireless programming device for the Moment models onwards, ProLink for the legacy models.
