Flat Loss - Domes or Earmolds / cShells

I have Flat Loss in both ears, my right ear is worse than my left. I have read a suggestion that switching over to a Earmold or cShell would be better than using a Dome for my type of loss. Wanted to see what other people who have flat loss suggest.

I do have a followup appointment this Friday and plan on asking my Audiologist about switching to a cShell instead of the vented dome I am currently using. I have the Kirkland Signature 10.0 which is essentially a Phonak Paradise and they use the exact same tips / cShells.

I appreciate any input

Thanks,
Catherine

Al depends on how bad your hearing loss is. An audiogram would help the ones one here to help you.

I have my Audiogram in my profile, but added a more detailed copy per your suggestion.

Thanks,
Catherine

@jakthebomb What receiver? Is it S or M?. Are you having any problems with vented domes?.

I have always preferred fitted molds to domes for sound and for stability. Since my hearing loss is mainly high frequency, I need to be sure that the molds are well vented. With your low frequency flat loss, I would think molds would be excellent because you need more bass. --Steve

I have M Receivers. The Vented Domes keep feeling like they are being blocked depending on how I angle them into my ears. Like I can shift my left one ever so slightly and it will go from muffled to crystal clear. I don’t really have much of a problem with my right ear.

The pain I keep feeling from my hearing aids has pushed me to get ear molds made. I am going for Acrylic cShells. Today I wiped some blood off of my ear when talking my hearing aids out. I wonder if the body of the receiver is pressing on my canal. I always have throbbing pain when taking my hearing aids out.

Can’t wait until I get the new cShells. Nearly three weeks I have been dealing with the pain.

Had another follow up with my Audiologist. Looks like the RIC wires were too short. They selected a Size 0 which had the wire taught and was causing irritation just inside the ear canal. I wonder if my new cShells will have the same problem.

After a whole day of wearing with the new wires, no more pain. It feel so nice not having to yank them out after a few hours because it hurts so much.

I finally got my cShells in on Friday. They are very comfortable, but they keep slipping out. I set another followup appointment to go over getting them remade with the skeleton style.

Those look nice.
Hang in there getting the fit you like.

Thank you! So far they are better than the domes were, my ears don’t get itchy anymore. But just need it to be slightly more locked in which I think a Skeleton type would do the trick.
