How long HA manufacturers like phonak, oticon and signia give firmware update and software support for their products ??? Can anybody answer?
They get pushed out when it’s required only, so no firm dates or anything, I’ve never seen more then one generation get a firmware update, usually only the latest platform of HAs, software is updated when a new platform is released in most cases.
@tenkan My audiologist says you will get firmware and software updates for phonak hearing aids for 10 years. He said this while trying to sell an old model on shelf to me. So I wanted to know if it is true
My Oticon Xceed won’t get any firmware updates despite it being the only Oticon HA that is suitable for profoundly deaf. It came out in 2019.
@Zebras Did you ask your audiologist about the update? Only they can do a firmware update for you
Yes. They are classed as too old now.
I am pretty sure that paradise firmware 1.1.15.0 came out well after lumity was out.
But your general statements are correct. Maybe the exception proves the rule?
WH
Unfortunately that’s not true, they don’t support anything that old, obviously they want you to keep buying new aids, not keep the older platforms chugging along.
yeah also the Marvel got that bluetooth firmware update well after the paradise release as well.
When l got my P70-UP aids, there was only one firmware update.
@Terost When it comes to P70 the firmware means Autosense OS… Right?
No, firmware and AutoSence are 2 different things.
@tenkan I’m a nubie on this subject. Autosense is the operating system, right? How many times do we normally get an operating system update for our phonak HAs? When I bought the P70, it was running on Autosense 4.0. They say the latest one is Autosrnse 6. Will this version, autosense 6.0, be availabe for update for phonak P series users?
So yeah what happens is the next platform they release gets the new version of AutoSence, so older models don’t get the option to run the latest, again just so you buy the latest HAs to get it, the marketing department blurb will be running overtime on how wonderful and amazing the newest version bah bah is you’ll hear everything including that drop of a pin, will think for itself and read your thoughts and just know “exactly” what program you need to be in to hear “everything” so AutoSence is just another program but in auto mode runs a lot of programs all together but not at the same time, changes depending on your environment.
Autosense is a program on my Paradise P90R hearing aids. They are 3 years old.
I just checked. I have the most frequent firmware. It’s the 1.15……talked about above.
I also heard that the chargers have firmware.
I truly appreciate that Phonak replaced my 2 hearing aids and the charger. That happened when my hearing instrument specialist sent them in for inspection when they were almost 3 years old. Warranty is over now.
For the 3 years I cursed my rechargeable batteries. Now they are much better.
No they don’t update the autosense. If you want the latest auto sense, you have to buy the newest aids.
Yes this is important for people to do, not just Phonak but all the manufacturers rechargeable, Oticon had it all sorted with the More, Real models, as you could replace them DIY, they now have them sealed as with everyone else, a brilliant idea blown away by them!
@Terost Thank you. I was thinking of buying an older model bcs the seller offered it at a lower price
I am on my second generation of hearing aids. My first pair were Oticon and I don’t think I ever got a firmware update. My latest are Philipps, from Costco, and the audiologist I worked with never mentioned anything about firmware updates, I also never thought to ask.
Taking my old Kirkland 9s into to Costco before the end of 4 yrs use they were refurbished and updated for $150 a piece. They were supposed to be my backups but worked better than the new Jabra 20s so I brought those back
I think this is an industry flaw. I’ve never had a hearing aid provider mention an upgrade. That’s in 20 years of use
I’ve only learned about operating system updates here
My Audis have been eager to help and do updates.
They have all claimed to sell all makes. How could they know about updates for every hearing aid?
