I have severe to profound hearing loss, wear 2x Signia Stretta HP aids paired with my iPhone.
To overcome the difficulties of hearing my wife’s words in conversations in noisy restaurants etc. I tried some of the HA manufacturers products: Induction Loop and BluetoothTX+RX systems.
The former old analogue technology, the latter not noise cancelling and cumbersome; all of them vastly over-priced.
Instead I realised that the if I connected a good noise cancelling wireless (typ. 2.4Ghz) microphone to my iPhone; using the Live Listen feature the background sounds were suppressed, the speech was as clear as I experience with mobile phone calls.
The mic. I chose was Hollyland Lark M2 simply because the blurb stated it was Mfi. It cost £91, there are a few other similar products available.
It should also work with any make of hearing aids that are paired with the iPhone. Sadly I gather, other phone manufacturers don’t have the Live Listen feature.
Hi, did you wear the Hollyland microphone on a lanyard around your neck or did you put it down on the top of the restaurant table?
I am curious as to how well it works in these two different physical locations.
Hi, It was attaches on clothing near face using the (very effective) magnetic attachment. Not the lanyard with magnetic holder. It suppresses sounds of movement of clothing or hair. Inconspicuous too. I’d expect the lanyard with magnet to be fine, just not something my wife Gilly would choose to go with her necklaces😊
Streets better than the Signia StreamLine mic in noisy restaurant or when I’m working in workshop or garden & Gilly can still talk to me, but like the StreamLine it was overwhelmed by an excessively noisy pub restaurant.
Answering your underlying question, the magnet on back of the mic is a reliable effective attachment method with no background noise effects.
Hope this helps.
Sounds interesting. I was just reading the literature about it.
I see that the microphone has a very good range to the receiver but I wonder about the range of the iPhone to your HA’s. With the receiver plugged into your iPhone, can you keep this in your pocket or do you need to have it on the table in front of you?
Doesn’t the extra mic plug into the iPhone?
Can you post a pic of the setup? (I’m assuming iPhone is on table and 1 person on either side).
How taxing is this setup on battery life (both phone and aids)?
The key issue is the IPhone sits with you, the microphone’s TX installed, so in close provimity to HA’s, whilst microphones with the speaker who can be some distance away (see spec). Transmission between microphone to iPhone wireless, not bluetooth, so greater transmission range; the transmission between iPhone & HA’ bluetooth via Live Listen.
Hope this helps
I only use one mic at a time which is with my wife so that I can hear her. IPhone & HA’s as always with me. I found introducing a 2nd mic for say daughter confusing.
Hope tnhis helps
IPhone didn’t seem abnormally affected during an afternoon & evening session, 1 mic used throughout. Note, charging case v. effective, & there was the spare always available.
Hope this helps
