Effectiveness of an OTC self-fitting hearing aid compared to an audiologist-fitted hearing aid: A randomized clinical trial

The study was funded by HearX and NIH. Not sure what HearX’s business model is? They seem to sell hearing self-tests and test devices, but NOT any kind of OTC aid.

Perhaps their motive for the study is to promote the SELF-done hearing test, purchase of device, and follow-on of service without any audi intervention. I think if this helps folks in the stated mild-to-moderate category of hearing loss take proactive steps to address that, it’s a good thing.

I’m not a DIYer, and would just prefer to have my audi do the testing, fitting, follow-on adjustments and handle repairs for me. Like a one-stop shop. But then I have a Big-D loss and am happy with my solution for now.

It’s great to have options. We just have to be a bit cautious about surveys: who funds them, and what the motive is.

They own Lexie which sells Bose hearing aids.

Ok - GOT IT! That sheds some light on things … BOSE being OTC aids.
