Easy to use captioning products for Elderly with limited tech skills

My father-in-law is in his 90’s. I assume he’s got the best hearing aids available, but he still struggles in conversations. Is there a large screen, voice to text device out there that could be put on a table and caption what he’s missing for him? How about recommendations for easy to use smart glasses (as an example of his mental capacity, he can only cook food that is at 350 degrees). I feel like he is becoming withdrawn because of his difficulty conversing with others. We need something that is ready to use out of the box, not that he has to learn to use.

I have no experience with it, but an internet search showed me this:

Best aids does not mean best aids for him or best programming for him or that he does not need an accessory such as a remote mic. Before making life more complex, go with him to the audiologist, get a copy of his audiogram, ask what they can do to help such as new/better molds, updated programming, a different fitting rationale, etc.

Does he want captioning because otherwise he likely won’t use it?
