This may be a silly question. However, since it seems that programming hearing aids for streamed music is difficult or even impossible for open domes,iIs it possible to use some type of earplug together with open domes to reduce leakage of base frequencies. The idea is to use the plugs only for streaming. If it is possible, what plugs would be suitable? I am not familiar wiith earplugs at all.
I do not think you can use earplugs over domes. The receivers stick too far out.
You could consider earmuffs. I joyfully went the closed dome route…
I am also considering that. How did they affect occlusion? Since I am a first time hearing aid user I have never experienced closed domes. However, I am already irritated by the occlusion from my open domes.
For me, closed domes are great. They enhance the lows and prevent feedback of the highs. But, yes, you have to accommodate the occlusion.
I think this is a good idea. Well, I would buy such a product.
When I am using vented domes (closed) streaming is real bad - music and phone calls. (Compared to Power Domes)
I have Phonak Lumity L70 on trial.
Hopefully you found a solution by now, as I hadn’t seen this post until today.
I tried various earplugs both gel and foam, but could never achieve an adequate seal.
I resorted to using cotton balls, cut down to fit, and had reasonable bass by adjusting the end fitting software for the phone streaming to Power Bass, and Sound Quality to Full sound for my Oticons. But tbh, I finally dug out my Etymotic ER3SE IEMs, and with Shure Olive tips, I get exactly the sound I remember from my pre aid days w/out my HAs.
Bottom line, best to ditch the HA’s & go w/ IEMs, if at all possible. You can get a Amp/Dac dongle with a mic for hands free phone calls, too!
Anyone consider switching the domes out while you’re streaming if you’re going to go through all that work of inserting cotton balls and getting special plugs ? Just curious. I guess it would take too long… Spoken by a power dome user .
LOL, I was being pretty anal, but these are the things I went through to achieve decent audio.
TBH, I have custom earmolds, and small vents, but still never got that bass bump, until i just gave up, and went back to my etys.
BTW, to go even further, if needed wavelet is a great app for eqing your phone, idk if it works w/iphone.!
Thanks for the response . I am trialing the Poweramp Equalizer with my Galaxy S23. It allows me to separately adjust the gain to each ear over 10 bands…up to 32 with further adjustments.
I have been contemplating getting the new Jabra Elite 8 Active Gen 2s. All their earbuds are 25% off for the next few days, including the new Gen 8s and 10s. They have LE Audio which would work with my phone.
They also come with a new charging case. It has a USB C/3.5mm plug to pair and transmit LE Audio to the earbuds for most legacy devices. Like airplanes, TVs, laptop, Audio sources or even cellphones. Sort of like the TV Streamer+ I guess.
It would be another gadget which I probably do not need but it could be fun. It would be one reason to take out my hearing aids. Except for ‘usually’ water and sleep. I have not found another reason… yet. .
Yeah, poweramp has parametric eq, which is very customizable.
I really don’t bother with eq with my current config, and at my desktop i use my Sennheiser HD6XX’s over my aids.
Jabra makes some very good buds, so those sound like a great deal for you.
Thank you all for your comments.
Since I am not familiar with studio type equipment, I decided to try some earbuds. I landed on Sennheiser MTW4. I have always wanted to try headphones from Sennheiser when I was younger and my hearing was still ok, but the price always stopped me from pulling the trigger. Now my priorities have changed due to my hearing loss, so I decided to take a chance on the MTW4s. I was not sure if they could handle my mild to moderate loss (some day I will try to add my audiogram), but it turned out that they actually could, although I seem to be near the limits on the treble side. For me they sound wonderful! I now use them instead of my Resound Nexia hearing aids for streaming music and video on both my iphone and macbook. They store the configured audio profile in the earbuds themselves, so they sound the same on both iphone and macbook.
