I had earmolds with small glued tube connectors, now I switched to earmolds with tubes. The question arose - which tubes to prefer - R shape or U shape? R shaped tube has two bends - this looks better, but probably may interfere with the passage of sound. U shaped tube has one but sharper bend. So which of these types have better acoustics?
Totally nothing wrong with double bend tubing.
They actually sit better on your ears.
Why would it effect sound? They’ve been sold for as long as I’ve been born and I’m in my 30s.
It’s down to fit rather than sound!
If you’re worried, try them.
From Google, found in seconds!
“Double bent to lie close to the head“
Thickness is down to sound but not shape!
Thank you for answer. I have profound hearing loss, so every decibel counts. I think we as hearing aid users need to prefer audibility rather than visual aesthetics. Maybe…
Yes but as I said, the sound is no difference due to the extra bend.
If ya worried, just try it as me saying anything hasn’t eased your concern.
As I’ve said before, it’s the thickness that counts!
Thanks, I’ll try. But I would like to hear the opinion of several experts and compare with my findings.
Ok you should have said that in the first place that you weren’t interested hearing from users and what Google says!
You are very kind to me
I use twin walled U shaped tubing @Lostdeaf, it is around twice the thickness of normal tubing, I had never heard of this tubing, until my A.uD suggested I try some, Audioligist reckoned this tubing would give me approximately an extra 5db of gain… This is the only tubing I use nowadays, it seems to work well… Cheers Kev
Thank you for answer! I use R shape tube with thick walls (3.2 mm outer diameter) now. I think double wall tube is 3.5 mm OD, so I will try it too. All improvements will be beneficial. Thanks for the advice!
Thickness of tubes depends on where you buy them from as well.
My thick tubes are 4mm OD and 2mm ID but can only find one place that sells them.
