I am getting my Kirklands 5.0 this Tuesday, 1/14/14. I asked about a good dryer and the reply from the Costco person was that it wasn’t necessary due to Kirklands Nanotech coating. The work I do deals with high pressure washing. Although I will probably wear a ‘sock’, I question if this is enough. I am thinking of buying a Serene Innovations ReNew Dryer with the UV light. Is this a good dryer? Do I even need one? I appreciate any advice/responses.
Costco will include a dryer, which looks like a small heated tray.
I use a Dry and Store, and have used one for over a decade. Even with nanotech coatings, your hearing aids will benefit from being stored in a Dry and Store.
Costco is in the process of phasing out the included dryers with hearing aid purchases. If you look at any promotional materials for the KS 5.0, note that a drier isn’t mentioned. Nano coating or not, it is in your best interest tokeep your aids as dry as possible.
I was given one of the dryers with my purchase of the KS 5.0 aids, and with my ReSound Futures 18 months earlier. Nowhere was it listed that they were included, but the Costco where I purchased tossed them in at no additional charge.
They threw in the ash-tray looking dryer with the purchase of my Quintras. I’ve never used it as it doesn’t look like a dryer. I don’t want to have to buy recharge blocks. Any suggestions on a dryer other than the one Costco gave me? Is the Costco one sufficient?
I put my aids in a small plastic container with a small packet of silica gel each night when I take them out.
Global’s Dry n Store works well and does a great job of drying the HA’s and also protects the HA’s from your animals when they are not in your ears.
I use the Serene Innovations ReNew Dryer with the UV light. I didn’t want to have buy dryer blocks, etc. so this being a plug in unit was for me. Do I “NEED” it? I am a new HA user over the past 6-8 weeks, but if a dryer helps to keep my new HA’s healthy it is worth the cost. Besides, I had rather them be in a container of some kind vs just sitting on a counter top.
The Dry-N-Store is a very good option. I am a fan of the Zephyr version.
even if you don’t do a dry and store be sure when they aren’t in your ears they are in something that a dog can’t chew or even a cat.
I agree with the others here. Particularly because you’re doing a lot of work with water = high humidity environment, I think a dryer is worth the small cost above the hearing aids for giving you a better chance of getting the most life out of your aids, whether or not Costco feels their customers should get one for free.
I work in high humidity environment and to remove the moisture each night and to help make the aids last longer, I had to purchase a hearing aid dehumidifier and is worth the cost.
The woman at Costco that sold me my hearing aid showed me the PerfectDryLux…$40 when I asked her about a HA dryer. I understood that that was the one that they sold.
