Donate your hearing aids

Hello:
Some information if you would like to donate your unused hearing aids (They do not accept Costco hearing aids, only the big brands)
Donate them to:
Ear of Lion -850 San Jose Ave. Suite 115, Clovis, CA 93612.
Phone 8oo- 327-8077 (https://earofthelion.org/)

I sent the letter below with my hearing aids and, I just received the donation tax deduction letter today with the Tax ID. It’s for a good cause

Thanks for information on where to donate! I only have the pair I’m using, but I’ll keep it in mind for the future.

I sent 2 sets of Phonak HAs to someone on here, along with a Roger Pen to Indonesia. However, I got zero feedback, so it won’t happen again.

This is for people in the US and we have legal processes for tax deductible donations.

Yeah @PeterH, I believe, I sent 3 sets, and other stuff to the same place, I believe…but I did get feedback & photos of one of the beneficiaries, which was nice…Sorry to hear you didn’t get any! Cheers Kev

The HAs Costco sells ARE the big brands. I’ve understood that the Jabras, for example, are identical with the like Resounds.

Costco in the past used to lock the HAs, maybe it is a historical thing.

Or maybe Jabra/Rexton/Phillips only allow certain companies to program their devices (legal restrictions). I don’t know but I am sure they have good reasons.

They do say, on their website, that if you have other type of hearing aids, you can sell them on eBay and transfer the earnings to them there.

Why not call them and let them know your thoughts? Maybe they don’t know

Many years ago, for some unknown reason this keeps rearing its head on this forum, people just can’t be bothered using the search button or even a quick google.

Nope not that either, any registered clinic/Audiologist can program them, they don’t need “permission” from the manufacturers, the thing to remember is all these rebranded models (and as mentioned) from the big 5, I think MiracleEar is one company that’s tried this “only us and nobody else” with locked HAs and custom software, I think we’re lucky that in this day and age these spiteful practices are a thing of the past ( although Widex is trying out new cloud based programming it’s yet to be established if it’s here to stay)

When I said “Costco used to lock hearing aids in the past “:, yes, I’m aware they don’t do that anymore but please take into account that people donate old unused hearing aids and that is what I was referring to. I am not sure why I’m getting the hand slapped with your google comment. I specifically said “in the past”

No your not getting a slap, it’s not directed at you, and just saying it’s not “certain companies only” club,
so basically just for others who read the posts etc

One of the few times hearing aids and feedback would be a good thing!

Your local Lions Club works with the Hearing Aid Project https://hearingaiddonations.org/
You might also check with a local university. For me the University of Wisconsin runs a Hearing Aid Recycling Program (HARP) https://csd.wisc.edu/harp/
You can also check with local funeral homes. Many of the larger ones have sources for the donation of hearing aids to charitable organizations.
