Domes won't stay in place

I am trying new Resound Quintra RIC hearing aids. The domes wont stay where I put them and move within seconds away from my ear canals (not completely, but considerably to notice). What is the culprit - are the wires too long or are the domes too wide (I know they are not too long)?

Thanks.

Do you have ā€˜ear locks/ear loopsā€™ on the RICs?

At least consider the domes may be too small.

I had that happen with me when the domes were too small. The Audiologist wanted me to use a medium dome and ā€œsuspendā€ the dome within my ear canal. I did not like the fact that the receiver would immediately begin walking out of my ear canal, so I went with a larger diameter dome. That fixed my issue. Just a guess, but I think the dome would be pretty uncomfortable if it was too large.

Also, I think you mean to say you have the Rexton Quintraā€™s? ( or the Resound KS5?)

Also had domes too small. The next size did the trick. I felt them for a few days and they were itchy but that passed. Now they are so comfortable I forget if Iā€™m wearing them - except I can hear!

I had this problem when I first tried domes. I tried several sizes. None of them worked for me so I had some custom ear molds made. The quality of the sound is much improved and they stay put so I am very happy with them.

maybe the wire is too long?Something obviously not right.Communicate with person fitting them for you.

Thanks for all the feedback, very helpful. I am going back to Costco tomorrow. I do have the ear locks, I find them helpful. I believe it is the length of the wire as another HAs that I am testing - Phonaks - have a very similar dome yet much shorter wire.

And yes, I meant Rexton Quintra, not Resound Quintra. My bad.

Actuallyā€¦if not dome sizeā€¦then wire might be too short and tension is pulling the dome out. Had that happen to meā€¦even with a custom moldā€¦once we got the tube a little longer, it was perfect.

Evil

  1. domes to small or to big (do no fit)
  2. wire too short
  3. speaker too big for ear canal, so they donā€™t go all the way inā€¦
    I mostly encountered these 3

I am still amazed that people buy a product that costs multi thousand of $, and still buy ā€œoff-the-shelfā€ domes rather than either get the audi to throw in custom fitted domes or spend the $100 to get them made. Thatā€™s like buying an expensive suit off the shelf and not even have alterations made so it fits properly.

I canā€™t speak from experience, but probably more times than not, the standard domes fit just fineā€¦and are far easier to replace if something happens to them! I do agree, and I do speak from my experience, custom molds are far more comfortable for me.

Evil.

I see you are still at it. I have to disagree. The right size dome is very comfortable, more comfortable than a custom mold. I used the tulip domes for a few years and if I could go back to those I would. My advice is, donā€™t get a custom mold if domes fit you well.

With your loss Iā€™d would think you would not want the custom molds as an open fit allows the sounds to filter in. The mold might be overkill and for what you gain in having a custom fit you lose in access to available sound, As mentioned before mine are so very comfortable. Just needed to work with an audi who knew how to fit them correctly

Custom molds can be open fit. Mine areā€¦see ā€œphonak slimtipsā€.

@miket - it is not a question of an additional expense. I prefer generic domes over custom molds, I find them more comfortable.

Think you have to trial various domesā€“as they differ.I tried a few various ones to then find one that seems to suit ok.

Sometimes ear itches a tad;but seldom.no major drama.

A good audio should be able to guide you,and allow you to experience different ones
