My Resound Quattro comes with open Tulip domes. Problem is they come out by themselves. And they are a bit uncomfortable after 12 hours. So I have tried many different ones. There is a closed bullet shaped one that is fine. But it comes out alas. There is one that it tight its like a parachute open with four branchs. Aw shucks how to add a pic? Anyway my HA guy doent have this do you know where to find it? Much obliged,
yup Mr. Ghost, I reviewed the Amazon site. I guess there is no help exept I try one or another. there is a promising one that offers 2 each of the three sizes. that might be where to start. i realize that size matters. much obliged,
I lost a power dome in my right ear for several weeks. Embarrassing. And I didn’t notice!
I have one ear canal bigger than the other
I bought an assortment of domes. It’s a long drive to my care provider. The supplier sold through Amazon
I’m using closed domes. Two tiny vents. I am using Large size. I find I have to keep pushing them back in my ear canal.
Wonder if I need a medium size dome instead.
Oh…dome type and size is a setting in the setup program.
My first hearing aid was a Widex in the ear
First fit. Squealed when I chewed.
End of warranty they remade it. It hurt. Had it for 10 years. I don’t want inserts.
I have found that HA domes will provide substandard retention, noise, or other performance issues unless:
-
You select, by trial and error if neceesary, the correct actual size (which might be different for each ear canal)
-
You insert the dome further into the ear canal than most new users think (it may feel unnatural at first to put something deeper into your ear canal)
-
Ear wax can cause slippage of the HAs. You need to CLEAN the wax out of your OUTER ear canals (don’t try to clean out DEEP in the canal - that can cause ear injury or wax packing against the eardrum!). Soaping down your ears during a bath or shower while washing your hair will help remove wax, but be sure to RINSE. AFTER your bath or shower, wiping (only) the easily accessible portions of the ear canals with a kleenex will remove any remaining water AND wax residue that was softened by the soapy water during the bath or shower.

I clean my HAs, including the behind the ear body AND the domes, with 99% Isopropyl alcohol every night after I take them out, and then I also dry them in my HA dryer, before putting them into the HA charger for the night. The Isopropyl Alcohol removes any built-up wax layering on the domes, which could otherwise cause the domes to slip out of the ear canals.
I USED to have problems with the domes slipping out, but that stopped entirely once I incorporated the above procedures.

Hi, I thought that alcohol would dry out the domes?
The internet is again my friend, Much obliged,
Public service announcement: Changing your domes changes your gain prescription. Play around with dome fit, sure, but let your clinician know.
It is not infrequent that a patient comes in saying, “I just haven’t been hearing as well for about the past 6 months” and I’m like, “this isn’t the dome your hearing aids were set up with, so yes I expect you aren’t hearing as well.” Open domes seem to grow on trees.
IF the alcohol actually “dries out” the domes, it must be a slow process because I have not encountered that issue in over a year of using this method successfully. Note that domes should be changed frequently, so even if the alcohol does somehow affect the domes, any effects would not manifest before you replace them anyway. “Frequently” does not seem to be defined anywhere, but I find i am changing my domes anyway about every 2 or 3 weeks because ear wax becomes stuck on it and it’s not a good idea to try to extract the wax because you can damage the HA doing so.

Thanks Neville.
I used to attend meditation sessions with a Zen Monk. Many of the others wore hearing aids and were almost my age.
Did that for a couple of years
I asked if they changed wax guards. They didn’t know what wax guards were. Or they said their care provider did that when they saw them
Jim, you nailed it; changing domes “in weeks”. I don’t so the alcohol issue.
Actually I clean nightly with Clorox Disinfecting Wipes. They say chloride. I ordered a mixed set of six from Amazon,
much obliged,
Hi
I use Phonak Spheres with closed Phonak domes size L.
Domes are still too small for my external canal. Any closed dome replacement suggestions (3rd party, other brands).
Would power domes be better?
What happens if you place an index finger in. Is the ha louder?
DaveL
They have 2 silicone seals
Thanks,
I also tried power domes. Still too small. I have tried pushing in a perforated small foam plug over the power domes, that helps.
On my previous Evolv I had a hard shell. It is better but still has its own problems.
Just a larger power dome or closed dome would be perfect (?XL).
