Hurray for the EU. The purpose is to make it easier to recycle valuable resources rather than, for example, have all the old Nintendo Switches in the world buried in landfill…

But will the EU go so low (so to speak) as to require HA’s to have replaceable batteries (or should they?)?

It’s not impossible. See this Australian design from about 5 years ago. Replaceable and swappable.

I’d vote yes for environmental and personal reasons. I don’t want to dick around getting batteries replaced every 2 years. Non-replaceable batteries suit the manufacturer- not me.
