I’m in the process of ordering my first pair of HA. They will be the mini RITE & I’m tempted to go with silver just because it looks modern to me, even though I have red-ish blonde hair.
What kind of responses do people get when their HA doesn’t match their hair? The women fitting the HA almost insisted I get a medium brown “to hide them” Am I making a huge mistake if I go with silver? And btw, it will be a long time before my hair turns silver.
Color is a personal choice. Go with what makes you happy, not what makes the HIS happy. Unless you are also married to her!!
Many people are very conciencous about hearing aids. They do not want them noticed. So for those people flesh tones or hair color tones make sense. Others are bold and do not care if others see them. Another forum member, can not remember which, stated that he had a shaved head and got his in a bold color, I think it was red and silver. Obviously he wants them to be seen.
I am a white male in my 40’s. Mine are the standard “white guy” tan color. I do not remember if I was asked for a color choice. If I had given it and thought, I may have also gone with a bold color. Since I have started wearing hearing aids I have not been shy at all about showing them off. Especially since I wear the phone clip on the front of my shirt. That thing just screams for attention. Anytime anyone asks about it, I automatically pull off an aid and show it to them and tell them how the phone clip functions with them.
So, if you are an outgoing person who does not mind sharing knowledge of your aids, by all means go with a bright color. Be proud of them.
I say get what you like. When I said I wanted black they were shock. I normally wear all black cause its just my style so didn’t see why they shouldn’t be also. One way or another someone will notice that you wear hearing aid and you will regret not getting the color you want. By the way my hair is brownish blonde
Some vendors realize people want different options. Look at the aids in the image below. I do not think the colors were designed to blend into hair or skin color.
I see them as accessory.
This is a revolving argument I keep having with Librty corporate. At least they finally got us a brown one.
I have a few African American patients, and the first ones looked at the “darker” color option and laughed. It was like someone told the factory “I want a hearing aid for black people.” And the factory apparently learned about black people from cartoons in the 1940s.
As the public stigma about hearing aids lessens, it becomes more acceptable to see them. In addition, several companies like Starkey and Oticon have realized that you are wearing an expensive and advanced technological device - and they made it look like it too.
As much as they cost…I want mine in neon green so everyone knows I have them.
When I “test drove” and ordered mine, color was not discussed. This was on a Friday and on Tuesday (it was a 3 day weekend) I called and asked if it was too late to change to silver. They told me no, the order was in but it could be changed.
I say give it some thought and order what you like.
Yes, mine can be changed too. The entire plastic shell of mine can be easily removed and replaced.
I have a very shiny bald head and wear black glasses. So naturally I picked black. But I don’t care if you can see them or not. I guess if I was truly crazy I would have ordered them in key lime green or something.
It is true that patients used to prefer neutral colors to blend in with hair or skin. But in recent years, the silver and charcoal metallic color options are BY FAR the most popular in my practice, even for female patients who don’t have grey/silver hair. They tend to read as sleek sophisticated instruments (which they are) instead of hearing aids. And as a user mentioned above, if I paid thousands of $ on ANYTHING, I would get it as bright and flashy as possible. Anyone who was familiar with hearing loss would know that you clearly had the means to drop a pretty penny on those babies. If you care about that kind of thing of course

My Oticon Agiles are Black and I have blonde hair. My new Phonaks will be Chilie Red. For me, bright colors will be better when trying to locate them without my glasses on. I Can’t see, hear, remember birthdays and anniversaries…you know the drill, it’s all part of the package.
I am proud to wear my hearing aids and love how they help me enjoy life and feel younger. When I describe to people to cool things they do, like Blue Tooth, Music, Noise cancellation, they are totally amazed.
I have grey hair and silver HAs, the colors clash. The original color was tan and after I wore them for awhile I asked the audi to change the color. I wish I had sets of shells in different colors so I could change them on occasion.
Like someone else said here, wear what makes you happy.
LOL I have purple hearing aids and love them!
Ok, so any ladies out there, what do you hear when you wear colorful aids…? 'Cause my husband isn’t really too helpful on this whole issue of what color HA to order.
I’m thinking brighter by the minute. Not that it should be the determining factor of which HA I order, but which ones are the best for switching shell/colors?
Thanks!
When I got my first pair, vanity ruled and I wanted them to blend in. Today, four sets later, black and silver!
Mine are, and always have been NHS beige! It’s the new black
My Audeo Smart IXs are fire engine red…cause red is the fastest color!!

Anything but the cadaver flesh colored band aid color.
No one alive has that color skin.
