I have the Costco Future, their version of the Resound Alera. I also have the Resound Phone Clip, which works, ok, for the phone although it could certainly be improved.
I have Dish Network and a few months ago received the new receiver, the Hopper. I like the Hopper but one advertised feature, bluetooth connection to bluetooth headphone, was missing. All they would say is that it was still in development.
So, the other day the Hopper updated itself and several new features appeared, including bluetooth. Obviously the hardware was already built in and they were working on the software.
I tried it and it really works great. I can turn bluetooth off on my phone, freeing up the phone clip, then activate bluetooth on the tv receiver and I get sound directly into my phone clip/hearing aids, no extra device on the tv needed.
There is one bug I’ve found but maybe they have a workaround. After I pair the device I can click on it and it asks for the password (all zeros) and it connects. If I disconnect, there doesn’t seem to be any way to reconnect. I have to delete the device onscreen and pair it again, which only takes about a minute but it looks like you should be able to connect, disconnect, connect, and so on. I will contact them and let you know what they say.
But for now the functionality is good and I can understand tv dialogue much better!
It should work with any hearing aid bluetooth phone device.
I don’t have a answer to your question but would like to know if there is a time delay between the sound through the Bluetooth verses the TV speakers noticeable as an annoying echo?
No noticeable delay. I had speakers on. Considering the application and the likelhood of people using headphones and speakers together, they probably solved that before releasing it.
The Resound Phone Clip itself has a very low delay, so that helps too. When I say low delay I mean lower than we can perceive.
EDIT: I tried it again last night and while there is not really a delay between the speakers and the Phone clip, the sound is different between the two and the speakers being on does not enhance the overall sound. It sounds better to me with the speakers off, or low. Through the Phone Clip I can understand everything much better.
Don a couple of things. First any time you are getting the audio feed from the sat box there is a small delay it almost sounds like a echo. Good that you don’t get that.
I do with the streamer so I always plug into the tv.
Second have you seen anything on the new phone clip+. It is listed on the resound web site but is not listed as compatible with the Futures. I talked with resound but got no where. It looks like a improvement. Let me know if you find info.
I have seen the new Phone Clip+ and I really want to try it. Connecting to two devices at once makes a big difference. I suspect it will work with the Futures but I haven’t tried it. I might buy one and try it, as long as I can return it.
I think somebody said Costco might get it late summer?
I’m not getting any delay in the Dish Network bluetooth transmission so I can use it with the room speakers on (for my wife or others).
I would imagine coming out of the TV for sound would be the slowest way and the most delay. From the Dish receiver I go to the surround sound system with an HDMI cable (video and sound), then from the surround sound to the TV with video only (HDMI).
Blu-Ray DVD is also connected to the surround sound system.
The only thing going to the TV is the HDMI (video only) from the surround sound system.
OK, I got another update on the Dish Hopper and they added a way to “connect” to a previously paired device. The problem is, it doesn’t do anything! I tried it time after time.
So, I thought maybe I need to delete and re-pair. It deleted fine but will not pair. So we went from working fine but with a little bug, to not working at all.
I only got to the level 1 Dish support over the weekend but their approach is just wait for another update. I will try to get further up the line with Dish this week.
Well, I talked to Dish support again and the rep agreed to report the problem. I also talked to him about replacing my Slingbox; it hasn’t worked since about two days after I got it.
Then, last night I tried to pair the Phone Clip+ to the Dish Hopper again and it still didn’t work. But about 5 minutes later I decided to unplug the Slingbox (from the Hopper) and in about 3 seconds the sound started coming through my hearing aids. I can only guess that somehow a malfunctioning Slingbox prevented the Bluetooth device screen from showing my Phone Clip+.
Anyway, you can now connect and disconnect at will, something that was missing before the update.
I paid attention to how it sounded with room speakers going and there is really no discernible delay. It sounds fine with both Bluetooth working and the speakers on.
Another update. I am very happy with the Dish Hopper bluetooth feature now. I can turn it on and off whenever I want and the signal is very strong. I measured out 41 feet, the longest distance I can get from my TV and still be relatively line of sight, and it still had a strong signal with no static or interference.
I did get the new Slingbox and connected it to my Hopper and it works great, and the bluetooth feature still works, so it must have just been the bad Slingbox causing the previous problems.
So, did changing out the slingbox resolve your dropped connection issue?
I don’t have any of your hardware, but have a similar issue when using my Siemen’s Tek paired to my Garmin GPS. Once I move out of range, there is no automatic reconnect when I return to the vehicle. However, I eventually figured out why…
As soon as I move out of range and the system disconnects, my hearing aids change back to whatever previous program they were on before I turned on the GPS. There is a “source” button on my Mini-Tek and Tek that will change them back to the blue tooth program at will, so when I move back to the vehicle, I just press the source button on my Tek and it reconnects without having to go through all the search and pair routines. Took me a while to figure that out, because I was so frustrated initially that I just quit using them with the GPS!
I have the new Signature 7.0 series. The bluetooth from the hopper box is wonderful. It takes awhile to get used to taping the tec to open the microphones so you can hear other people in the room but this greatly improves my tv enjoyment.
