Disappointed after annual review of Phonak Audeo Paradise P90R's

I do recall, saying that setting up and proper programing is 90% of solutions, glad to see you have now joined the rest of us in the down to earth of the living. Enjoy Dave.

Thanks for your note.

After my troubles with the “audeologist that quit” I checked rate my doc to see. He was there. He had the most glowing high rated report. Somehow we ran off the rails. He’s a gentleman; he worked miracles getting me the PHONAKS that he did. He just couldn’t set them up right.

I found my new dispenser remembering a local tv channel had interviewed hearing care providers. He is the one that set up my hearing aids so I can hear.

Yesterday I had my Audi tweaked the compression and the volume plus a few other small adjustments from the initial set-up, now it feels more like put them on in the morning and just go about your day feeling. I also have the latest MyPhonak App, should be interesting to see the power consumption results in a few weeks, so far I get about 165hrs of battery life before switching.
Have a nice weekend.

"Yesterday I had my Audi tweaked the compression

  • I discovered this in a book I bought…it was old
  • The myPhonak APP has “Dynamic” off the screen on my iPhone SE. I adjusted that; it made it easier to understand my Wife. That was a feature in the programs I had saved, and even in the Automatic program. My audiologist - who-quit scrubbed all those programs when he did a quick fit, when he resigned.

and the volume plus a few other small adjustments from the initial set-up, now it feels more like put them on in the morning and just go about your day feeling.

  • stereo days the only tools I had were to buy good turntables/speakers. And turn up the volume.
  • the book I spoke of emphasized that compression would help those frequencies that needed help.
  • now I have directional microphones (didn’t work because audi screwed up setup)
  • now the fit formulas are much better; don’t know how to determine which he used, and which the new one used. Could be a big difference.
  • so we have gain, microphones, and fitting software that are better

I also have the latest MyPhonak App, should be interesting to see the power consumption results in a few weeks, so far I get about 165hrs of battery life before switching.

  • audi who quit chose rechargeable batteries for my hearing aids I would rather have disposable. But it’s the new way I guess

Have a nice weekend.

  • you too! You help a lot!

Thanks.

Been using HA’s 20 years. 10 years, 3 sets of Phonaks. First experience was magnificent. Then it got so much worse.

Follow up…
First my hearing aids are supplied by Workman’s compensation due to exposure to noise at work. The dispensing audi set me free…and I went to a hearing aid practitioner.
I have had a hearing test there now. And two follow ups. My hearing test showed that I’m 10-20 dB worse off…than the audi measured just before I left. That’s huge. He also made mistakes setting up my Paradise P90R’s. Wrong domes; right HA and Left HA were not set up to talk to each other.

I’ve adjusted my audiogram to show my current study.

Finally, I’m using 2 power domes now. No inserts. All the audis I’ve had have lived in fear of talking to Workman’s Compensation.

This all happened starting a year and a half after I got my Phonak Audeo Paradise P90R’s. Workman’s Comp pays for 2 appointments a year unless there’s a change in my hearing. Or so I understand. This is in Ontario Canada. @Neville

CVA was the dispensing audiologist and he worked a miracle getting my hearing aids for me about 3 years before I was allowed. Term is for 5 years… He also worked a miracle getting me top of the line Phonak Paradise P90’s. He’s a gentleman. I wish him luck.

Great respect for my Hearing Instrument Specialist, HWM. He took me on in spite of being a client of Ontario Workman’s Compensation. I recently watched a video that Dr Cliff posted showing what he charges to sort out hearing problems caused by someone else’s work. Oh my.

Want my HA’s to be as good as possible.

Hi Ruth!

Follow up…

I’ve had a new hearing test and two follow ups.

My hearing is 10 to 20 dB worse than the dispensing audi measured two weeks before we parted=my year and a half review.

That’s awful.

Follow up…

My hearing aids are working better than before.

  • Hearing Well Matters did a better audio test. My hearing aids became louder but that was the first step.
  • Follow up confirmed that my hearing was even a little bit worse; and a follow up again suggested that my hearing IS Worse. Note that my audi who dispensed my hearing aids had suggested that my hearing (due to loud noise exposure at work) had magically improved, and my hearing aids would be quieter. That was the day he erased previous programs and said I needed someone else who could help me more. (He fired me.)
So a week ago I said that my hearing aids were loud; I needed to suppress background noise. Ron H made some adjustments; my hearing aids are a whole lot better. I don’t have Target to see what he did. I don’t have a Noahlink

In August I shall have owned my Phonak Audeo Paradise P90R’s for 3 years. I’ve been with my new Hearing Instrument Specialist for about 9 months. I’m very pleased with the changes he has made and the quality of his work. I wish the dispensing audiologist well; after all he did manage to get me these wonderful hearing aids. He just never set them up right.

I wish there was a way to find my posts. I wish I could put a collection together.

I find myself repeating myself. I feel I’ve pushed some away

I’ve finally made good progress. I didn’t request the Target Pro Report and Target User report.

My setup was beautifully changed 10 days ago. That’s when he found a Power Dome in my right ear. A week later I had both Power Receivers changed. That was very positive too

DaveL

I returned exactly a week later.

But after a week or so one day I took my hearing aid off, and there was no dome. Yup. one-in-the-ear.

got the Swiss Army Knife out. Took the tweezers. Gently put the hooked end and carefully moved it around. Had the dome closer to out, and managed to encourage it out of my ear.

How do others get left-behind-domes out of their ears? It’s a hundred mile drive to get to the hearing aid store.

Hey Phonak! I’m volunteering again to be in a focus group! I’d love to help you make a best-of-line hearing aid! I have experience! Phonak Audeo Paradise P90R’s!

I wish I could help you, I always had custom ear molds with the pull out tab, sometimes after a few years the tab broke off and even then gently pulling on the wire the mold came out of my ear, never had the molds and receivers separate, I did manage to glue the tab back in, so that said, I never had a mold stuck in the ear issue. You refer to “dome”, I’m not sure the difference between that and custom ear molds.

You truly help.
With my Receiver in Canal hearing aids I started with open domes.
Went to closed domes (two tiny holes in the dome.)
Dallied with Power Domes (without explanation; and received the wrong size.
Changed audis. He got me new Phonak Audeo Paradise P90R’s. Open domes. Used closed domes (two tiny holes). He fired me. Did a quick fit on my Phonaks; erased my saved programs, and I was gone.
Found new hearing instrument specialist. I’ve been with him for 9? months.
He made positive changes. He gave me a good hearing test. I hear so much better now. Target said “Power Domes”. After I had a spare one stuck in my ear for several weeks, I’ve changed back to 2 closed domes. I don’t have feedback issues. I’m hearing much better in noisy environments.

I think the new receivers for Paradise hearing aids will help a lot if Phonak Canada will provide them. Mr Phonak! I need two new Power Domes 2P size. Then I will be able to use the wonderful old wax guards and domes I had on two previous pairs of Phonak hearing aids.

I just picked up a couple of P receivers on Ebay for $40 each. Maybe you need to try DIY. It’s not that hard, There are some good how to videos on Audiology on line.

Thanks! I shall keep it in mind.

I’ve asked for copies of the Target Pro Report and the User report.

I’m happy with the progress that Hearing Well Matters has made

I wouldn’t recommend the Paradise P90R hearing aids.

Now I’ve programmed my Oticon Xceed 1 UP well, I’m enjoying them more then my Phonak P70.

Is the software as easy to use as Target?

@PeterH

It’s easy but very different to Target so does take time to learn.

I pick up more sounds with the Xceed over my very muted P70.

  1. The annual review was with the dispensing audiologist who never set them up right. In fact when I left him he did a Target quick fit and it was his best setup! He always used REM. EDIT….hw didn’t do REM that time. AND I’ve recovered his last real setup on my Paradise P90Rs. He had set up my Phonak Bolero B70 hearing aids that were provided by his predecessor. My spares

  2. Phonak makes fine hearing aids with many features. My issues were because he never asked my preferences (battery), and he reported my hearing had improved, making my hearing aids quieter.

  3. My Hearing Instrument Specialist has occasionally provided the Target Pro Report and Target User Report. Phonak features work. If my audi had done so it would have helped a lot. These two reports are essential for me. The alternative is DIY setup, which I haven’t done yet.

July 31st. My Hearing Instrument Specialist has worked a miracle. So has PHONAK. In two days I shall pick up my new hearing aids. The P90Rs were sent back as my warranty was almost over. I can’t wait to try them! My batteries were wonky.

Hopefully, you are back up and running in a couple of days Dave… I cant wear my Naida Lumitys just now, way too painful… Tried rubbing the mould down on the left ear, to no avail, I keep getting a sore in the ear canal, so its back to the Marvel RIC’s (Again) they aren’t a patch on the Naida Lumity UP’s, not enough oomph! But better than nothing… I am off to a funeral tomorrow, up in Thurso, there will be dozens of friends there, even though it’s approximately 108 miles away, and that means talking, I may break out a new set of moulds for the Naida Lumitys UP’s, if not, I will be hearing very little… Cheers Kev
