Disable noise rediction on Oticon Connectline TV 2.0

Hi all

I recently received my Oticon Alto Pro hearing aids with streamer and connectline TV adaptor. I am very pleased with my hearing aids and the streamer paired with my iPad and phone works really fantastic, sound is clear and crisp but the Connectline cuts out soft sounds while I’m watching TV or Movies. It’s really frustrating, on some movies where the voice is really soft it cuts it out to. I have asked my Audiologist why this happens and she in turn contacted Oticon for support. Their reply was that I am watching to loud but this is not at all the case, I can watch the same movie on my iPad and no sounds are being cut off. I have searched the net but in vain. Is there any way to disable this function on the Connectline TV unit? I have stopped using the Connectline and thus still lose dialog on movies. It either way to loud or to soft. I really do not see why noise reduction is required for direct streaming? Please any advise?

Ask your audi what volume they set your Streamer at, perhaps it is set to it’s lowest setting. I had mine changed to the high volume setting and it solved the problems I was having. Good luck!

Unfortunately Oticon doesn’t utilize separate programs when streaming, as other manufacturers do, so there’s no way to increase the gain for soft sounds in that specific situation only. The settings from Program 1 (P1) are always used, and if you change the gain in that program, it will affect your non-streaming usage as well. The only workaround I can think of is rather kludgy. You could copy the settings in P1 to P2, make P2 your everyday general-use program, and then optimize P1 for streaming. However you would have to remember to switch to P2 whenever you’re not streaming.

Thanx for the replies.
@Seb: Its not a volume issue, I can hear it very well. You can hear the unit cut off and back on when watching movies. Like I said, when watching on my iPad I have no issues. It really likes to cut off the faint background music, even if the units are at full volume.

@Rasmus: I will certainly give that a try, though I doubt the issue is with the hearing aids or streamer. I think its a setting on the connectline unit itself. My hearing aids in normal use does not filter or reduce soft or low sounds, it does alter loud sounds. When connected on the connectline It does the exact opposite, it cuts off low volume sounds like a type of noise reduction.

Now that I understand what the problem is I can tell you mine does the same thing and I found that it only happens to me when the lanyard around my neck gets off center and one or both HA’s lose the signal, once I reposition it the signal is restored. If I’m wearing a shirt with a pocket in it I usually put the Streamer in it and it seems to keep it from slipping off center and cutting out.

The TV adapter has no controls or settings. It’s simply a transmitter. All volume adjustments have to take place on the Streamer or the hearing aids.

There are some adjustments available in the software for the Streamer settings (you can set different parameters for the phone, mini mic, TV, audio, FM, or telecoil). For TV, you can set the overall Streamer loudness, the loudness of the hearing aid mics in relation to the TV, and the high & low frequencies. There is also a “Power Bass” setting (like a subwoofer on a stereo system). Unfortunately there isn’t a way to change the noise reduction setting directly, but maybe changing one of these other settings will help.

Another possible solution is to re pair it to the TV adapter, I had to do this for the telephone adapter and it fixed the problem.

Again thanx for the replies. I will give those a try and give feedback. Is there software I can load on my laptop to adjust these settings myself or must I go to the Audiologist?

You need software, cables, and a programmer (Noahlink, etc)

I have found that I can hear much better when streaming if I mute the hearing aid mics
