I’m looking for a service that can 3D scan ear impressions. I might need to order several custom-molded products in the next few months, and having to get ear impressions for each one could become costly and time-consuming. Plus, if I lose a set of plugs in the future, I’d have to go back to get another impression. So, I’m interested in getting a digital copy of my ear impressions.
I spoke with a vendor who mentioned that they can work with an unlocked STL file, which is a common 3D file type.
I found a local clinic that has an Otoscan, but they are unable to provide me with a file that can be used with a third-party. It seems that the Otoscan is part of a closed ecosystem.
I’ve reached out to several other clinics to see if they have a way to provide a digital copy of an ear impression, but I haven’t had any luck yet.
Does anyone know of a service or another method to obtain a digitized copy of an ear impression?
I’ve seen online ads for small 3D scanners specifically designed for scanning ear impressions, but I haven’t been able to find a business that offers this service.
I found a couple of services by searching for “3d digitizing service”, https://prtwd.com/services/3d-scanning/, it is a bit expensive though. They are locte on the east coast (New York).
The other is : Our Top 3D Scanning Services in the USA | 3d Scanning Near Me which is located in Irvine , Caliornia. They are connected to an Indian company but it sounds like they have some euipment in Irvine.
Both offer a means of getting a quote, make sure to include a photo of your impression with a scale so they can see the size of the object to be scannned.
Usually companies scan your earmolds when you send it in. Could you ask for the scan?
The otoscan scan isn’t easily accessible, and is also huge.
Historically, we often just ask providers to send the earmold back–you could ask for that too, although depending on how long it takes the physical mold starts to degrade.
