Hey everyone, I have been wearing my hearing aids for a few months now and I jam incredibly happy with them! I got some genetic testing done and it was found that I have dfna21 which is more than likely the cause of my hearing loss (I’m adopted so I don’t know much of my family history hence the tests). Wondering if anyone else has the same thing. I just want to know how fast I am going to lose my hearing from someone who is experiencing the same thing. Thanks

Hi, Ethan,
After I saw your post here, I Googled DFNA21 and read about it. I had never heard of it but I’m going to ask my doctor to recommend the genetic testing for me, because every description is a match for my experience: onset at around age 30, son with hearing loss, even Dutch ancestry. Thanks so much for posting! Eventually, I hope to share my results here.

I’m very super similar but with the HOMER2 gene (started at birth)
funny thing? it causes progressive hearing loss and mine is usually stable. my mom’s too
my gene involves tinntius that she experiences too as well
