Hi Folks. A relative recently got covid and experienced hearing loss in one ear as a result. Doctors gave a course of steroids when hearing didn’t return to normal, and that improved it, but not back to normal. Two questions: (1) anyone have any knowledge of covid’s impact on hearing loss? (2) any suggestions for HAs they should consider if loss is just on one side (my loss is on both ears, started a decade ago in one, and I’m using Phonak Infinio). Thanks!
I had covid twice last year and after the second bout, I ended up with an inner ear blockage in the right ear. I was close to completely deaf in ths right ear.
Several rounds of steriods and an injection of steroids finally cleared the blockage, but my hearing in the right ear never returned to what it was before Covid.
Eustachian tube blockage is common with respiratory illness. Allergy season can also compound or bring on this condition. Eustachian tube blockage can muffle one’s hearing to a greater or lesser degree. And, it can take months to clear, as I know from long experience. It can also cause middle ear issues, due to fluid being blocked up behind the ear drum and for other reasons.
Thank you Jeffrey. Helpful indeed
Thank you Dave. I’ll pass along the info.
