The app allows the user to adjust volume for each program but when switching between programs, the settings revert back to default. Very bad. The user should be able to set volumes and the hearing aids should remember the new setting in non-volatile memory.
Now I have to drive 40 miles to Costco each time I want a subtle change in program volumes. On top of that I have to wait 2-3 weeks to get an appointment. I contacted Philips and they basically said to live with it. What would a person do who lived in a very remote location? Not happy and I’m thinking about getting full refund…
I have the Oticon OPN1 aids which is a sister company for your aids, and I believe uses the same app. All I can say is the app is what it is. I no longer use the app because it is just about useless. And yes anytime you change programs the aids always go back to the default settings it has worked that way forever. There is nothing that can be done by your audi to fix it either I have been down that road.
I just lookup the app and it is the same as what my aids use, your audi cannot help you with the issues you are talking about.
As a point of reference… My wife has a medical device implanted in her body. The manufacturer is Medtronic. She has a special smart phone app to control the intensity of the unit. When she changes the setting in the unit the new value is retained in memory and never needs refreshing.
I explained this to Philips and they don’t give damn.
it is the best I know of and I have been using this for over 10 years. There is maybe something on Facebook. But I will tell you, your Phillips aids are new to the market and there isn’t much out here yet for them, even though they are about the same as my Oticon OPN aids. There is some on the Oticon OPN facebook page but not much real tech help.
Thanks for quick reply. I’ll keep running this issue up the flag pole. I think hearing aids are considered a medical device and that is why tech has to make adjustments. It just doesn’t make any sense that user can adjust all they want (and blow their ears out, if they choose) but default settings must be made by a tech. Maybe laws have to change? Put Pence in charge…
The adjustments you can make to the volume will never go beyond a safe level for your hearing as long as you don’t go into the same software that the Audi uses to make the changes then you are limited to the power that the aids recievers have. I have been wearing hearing aids for just over 15 years, and I have been using Oticon aids for over 10 years of that. Hearing aids are just that some help or aids they will never give us our normal hearing. All I can say is be patient and give yourself some time to adapt to the aids, and as you do the aids will need some adjustments by your audi. And also it would be a help if you would post your audiogram to your profile.
Got USA flag and State of OH added. This forum is very different than what I’m used to. I’ll figure out how to scan and add audiogram.
I’ve been wearing hearing aids for over 25 years. In my opinion I think the hearing aid industry (mfgrs and retailers) is a cloistered organization. Very little info disseminated to end user - just smiley pictures of people who look like they can “finally hear” with newest whizzbang hearing aid.
It’s false advertising that “user can adjust volume”. You can “play” with volume but setting is taken away. Had I known this, I would have not purchased new aids at this time…
at the top of the forum you see forum click on it and you will see my hearing test, you will have to log in again I believe but you can enter your audiogram there.
Keep in mind - the phone is one thing. The hearing aid is another.
Take resounds app for Linx3D and Quattro. Those apps have the ability for custom programs by the end user. The audiologist can make you custom programs as well… So WHY are the audiologists programs always there, but your arent???
The audiologist created programs are stored WITHIN the hearing aids. Your APP created programs are stored IN the phone. So when you change the program on the hearing aids…everything is changing to THAT program.
I also wear Oticon OPN1. I agree the App is pretty useless, except it identifies the serial # and firmware version, which is valuable information. I use the iPhone for all other functions.
I like the fact changing programs, either from the App or iPhone, reverts back to the default volume. I turn the outside mics way down or mute whenever I am streaming, phone calls, or under the loud stove exhaust fan while cooking, or in hugely noisy situations. I can change Programs quickly to take the volume back up to default instead of click, click, click on the aids to increase the volume. I consider this a positive feature.
I hope your hearing aids are not set so loud that they allow you to “blow your ears out”. If they are, you do need a visit to the fix that.
I do believe this is the most informative hearing aid forum, with many helpful, knowledge people.
