Costco KS5 KS562-DRW, replacing housing

I have had this pair for last 8 years trouble free, except at one time one of the receivers broke and replaced by Costco. Recently I dropped one of the aids and the plastic housing is chipped at the corner where the battery holder latches into. It still works fine (electronics) but battery holder won’t lock because of the chip. The rocker switch is bit loose for the same reason. Costco won’t work on these anymore. Even if I source my own housing, they won’t replace it for me, as they said they cannot “touch” this model anymore.

I figure I may buy a used one and just use the housing I replace it myself - really only the top plastic piece (the one with slots for the microphone) is missing a corner. Anyone knows how to remove the housing? I imagine the receiver needs to be removed first. It’s got to be very simple. During the fitting years ago, I had them change the color of the housing. The Costco guy changed housing in a minute or two.

Thanks in advance.

The below example is for Signia Pure primax and your old ReSound Verso will me different. Can you post pictures of your HAs? Take yours apart first before paying for replacement case.

In general it’s something like this; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3ZS8wheUfE

ETA: Oh, when ordering a replacement case you may not have to worry about right or left because I think that all cases and battery doors are made the same for both left and right. Though, compare yours side-by-side to make sure.

It’s actually quite easy, just a bit fiddly, change the whole case, remove the receiver and top pin plus the battery door pin, and pull apart, it’s 5 piece job which includes the rocker button and battery door, plus the receiver locking mechanism, both the rocker button and receiver mechanism are a bit fiddly to change over, take your time and you’ll get it.

Oh and you should use an anti static mat, but I’ve done a few without one…

Thank you pvc. The Siemens in the video is indeed very similar to KS5.

tenkan, the picture is very helpful. Thanks

Do you know how to remove the receiver? There is a hole that seems to be related to the release of the receiver. If I insert a pin into the hole, to which direction would I pry it?

Is there another hole towards the receiver wire?

Lift it up towards you, but be careful it only needs to be enough to remove the receiver.

Hi tenkan and PVC, I guess I still need some help.

Just got a donor aid (looks very clean and not seen much use) to take the shell. I pushed up the receiver locker and removed the receiver, pushed out the two pins (red circles). The battery holder and bottom half of the case separated. But the electronics are still attached to the top half of the case. I can turn the electronics body but it appears still attached by the rocker switch - the switch does not come out together with the electronics like the Siemens in the video. Obviously the pin for the rocker switch is inside and cannot be accessed until the electronics come out of the top shell.

I did not push out the pin for the receiver locker (blue circle) as it obviously has nothing to do with taking the main aid out of the shell.

Please help. TIA.

I would remove all pins, the circuit/chassis needs to be pulled away from the top housing from memory, the rocker switch is just sitting freely on top of a rubber mount and does not “click” into place as such, but could have a pin, I’ll take my Verso apart just to be sure.

Well, this was an old/unrepairable Oticon (Agil I think). So it didn’t matter if I broke it. So there’s that. I took two pins out (battery door pin, and pin at front receiver plugin). The case came apart easy. But the case was still firmly attached to the electronics.

I slid a fingernail between the case and the white plastic (near the battery door pin hole). Then I pried up on another part of the white plastic using another fingernail, and it popped apart.

YMMV btw> You need Eagle Eyes to get the pins back in the holes.

Ok so I took my Verso apart and as you can see, even tho we have the same chip set, the housing is quite different, pulling it apart will be slightly different, so take all the pins out and then remove the bottom housing, you then pull the circuit/chassis out and down at the same time, it may take a little bit of effort but it will pull out in one piece, the rocker button is pressed/clicked on or off as per pictures, as @pvc stated the pins are a little bit fiddly to put back in, I use a pair of nail clippers to remove and put back in.

Figured out how to take out the electronics from the top shell. On the inside wall of the top shell, there are two protruding nubs, one on each side. They keep the electronics in. To take it out, just pull it out. It will click out. To put it back in, just push it in. It will click in.

Once the electronics block is out, the rocker switch is still attached to the top shell. There is no pin for the switch. Just more nubs. It could be pulled out but it looks delicate and it is not necessary for me to do it since I am replacing the entire shell so I just leave it there. It is not necessary to push out the 3rd pin (the one for the receiver locker), unless you want to install a different locker on the top shell.

When reinstalling the pins, install the short pin (the one near the receiver locker) first. This is very important as this pin pins down the electronic module at the right position so the two micro switches on the electronic module (for the rocker switch) line up with the two pushers on the switch. Then install the long pin, which affixes the bottom shell and battery holder onto the electronic module. At this point the things become one piece. It isn’t hard to install the pins for me. Once I figured out how this thing works it is the easiest part. I probably do have eagle eyes, as I often work on tiny parts

Apparently KS562-DRW and Resound VO562-DRW have different designs, at least how the shell and internals come together, although they are supposed to be the same thing. If you need a donor aid for KS5 for parts, buy a KS5. Resound parts aid won’t work.

Posting this process and hope it may help someone else.

Thanks @pvc and @tenkan for the help. This world needs more people like you, not the guys at Costco flatly saying we don’t work on these, not offering any help.

Fantastic you got it sorted, plus a good write up on the process to get it done.

If it’s the battery door that isn’t damaged, keep hold of it, even if it’s a different colour on the old one because it’ll come in handy if your battery door/s gets loose from opening and closing it all the time.
